Being a 360 MNC player looks fun; that subforum is more whiney than the SMNC ones.

Not as whiney as MWO tho

Going to that thread, I don't want to get involved into their whining and bitching and fanboying, so I'm going to derail this one instead.

Fun fact: DOOM outsold Windows when it was out.

To be kind of on-topic, that's actually the only thing on my clipboard anyway because there was nothing on it before that.

Why do people always think Quake and CS are in the same category? Anyways, somebody post in that thread that Justin Bieber probably sold more records than Miles Davis, so obviously Bieber's music has more artistic quality.

Edit: I read that topic now.

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh wow

Exactly what I thought. As Harry said, using sales as a measuring point is irrelevant.

And as Kval said, they are quite similar, if you went onto an online site, they'd both be in the same category. Gears and Uncharted are both in the same category, doesn't really mean they're similar.

Edit: Well actually, if you're not using category as genre, then maybe we're talking about different things.

Quake: Fast-paced, emphasis on individual performance, designed to have unrealistic, over-the-top violence
CS: Slow-paced, emphasis on teamplay, designed to be realistic

But anyways I gotta stop here before I derail yet another thread for my silly ancient shooters

Edit: Not to mention that Quakers hate CS and probably vice-versa. Not in the BF vs CoD "have a lot in common and therefore get compared a lot" sense, but in the sense that they hate the kind of game the other represents.

Genres are allowed to have variety. Racing games can be realistic simulations or arcadey. RTS games can be huge scale like supcom or tiny scale like DoW2.

It's the same attitude as Mavajo saying all MOBAs have to be -exactly- like DotA. You might have a preference for a game or style within a genre, but you can't discount the other varieties of content within it.

I'm not saying that they aren't in the same genre. I'm saying that they aren't within the same category and using them as examples of one certain type of game is just stupid.

I think the example of "PC shooters" versus stuff that guys play on console are probably accurate.
The point was that guy was saying console is superior etc etc.

No, it isn't. In the mind of a Quaker, CS is just as casual and low-skill as any console shooter. Rightly so in my biased opinion.

That's from a biased opinion, as you said; which are usually not shared by anyone NOT in that bias.

The definition of genre is category.
