    Being a backer means simply that, you backed the project by initially contributing funds, not invested, CONTRIBUTED. Your return on investment is zero unless you count the cost of the game and some of the extra items, in which case you probably still lose money compared to the actual value of the items. You get to have input on (but not control of) the product. You get to see the inner workings of game development rather than the canned behind the scenes footage from 'making of' documentaries.

    As to the financial model being used, it's still capitalism, same as the old system. There is not a lick of socialism in the game industry. Regulation is not socialism.

    My return of this game is not zero because I'm not expecting monatery return on my contribution or investement. I'm expecting entertainment.

    Btw this shows why free capitalism is good, I can choose too invest heavily in the game and I have risk in it becoming good or bad. If its good I will enjoy it, if its a fail I would not get a return in form of enjoyment. Why you are talking about socialism I have no idea.

    I backed because:
    • I loves me some RTS
    • the concept video was awesome
    • the credentials of the devs (TA, SupCOM) are RTSs I love

    What backing means to me (aka Why I Coughed Up Much Monies):
    I gets me some alpha access. Not just open beta, not even closed beta. Alpha :cool:

    I also grabbed a beta/retail key for my brother who also loves him some co-op comp stomping RTS action. He also agreed the concept video contained an excess of awesome :mrgreen:

    Oh wait, that reminds me I need to ask a stupid question in another thread ^^;

    I've seen about 26 people max on e-warzone, 2 on GameRanger, I wouldn't call that an "active community"

    You're not a very good seeker then! The forum has an almost constant number of over 100 people daily and the patches/mods that have been developing over the several few years are still getting plenty of people interested. We are talking about a 1997 RTS game, 100 on the forum and possibly 500 daily players is a huge number(I have seen that many people don't want to be bothered with gameranger and warzone and simply play campaign/skirmish). I wonder what will happen once PA is out, I will look at the statistics carefully :mrgreen:
