Not sure if talked about before, But could not find the topic anywhere..

Have noticed some talk about "Server Side Calculations" In your March 22nd LiveStream, That has shocked me a little! And with all the Negativeness around EA and SimCity 5, And not having the option about playing "Offline", Is PA players going to be able to play and install Completely offline,

Reason 1, Reinstall the game from my collectors edition retail box in 20 years when the game is "Retro" Will Uber be around in 20 years, Will the servers still be on? (I still play original TA)

Reason 2, My internet is crappy, Online play is mostly painful for me!

Reason 3, May Not want to play against ******* teenagers who dont have a job and have nothing better to do but play PA all day, Then calling me n00b because they may beat me in a battle, I sometimes like playing agents AI only!

Oh And Uber is AWESOME for making this AWESOME looking game! (Awesome)
    :D

You can host your own server, on your own computer, and play on it at the same time.

Uber has been been referring to 'server side' in a technical context. They don't mean 'on a strange computer in a farm that you have no say on.'

Basically, don't freak out. Everything is going to be fine.

It is sad how EA has sullied the term "server". The moment people hear it they start to worry about drm. :S

All the pathfinding better not be online. I wanted PA to be a game that you can play WITHOUT having an internet connection.

If you need an internet connection to play PA...then unfortunately its gonna suck...big time.

That's not what it means AT ALL.

Path finding is a lot of work, so the server does the heavy lifting. ANYONE can host a server, online or offline.

Like they said many many times, for the really really big big games you need a server with multiple cores... that will do most of the work... if you want to play a smaller game, your own game, host your own "server" on your own computer and then play the game offline. Everything will be done and calculated by your own PC, just don't expect as epic games as they might be on a "professional" Uber server... you will be limited to your "normal" hardware...

PA will require constant internet connection to play online.

You can host your own server.
If you host your own server on your pc, you play also the game(client) on, you dont need internet connection.

If your have a dedicated server to host the game on you need at least wlan or lan to connect with it. (homeserver)

I dont get the people who voted for 100% offline anyway, that means you can't play over the internet...

And its just a terminology difference yeah:

Host game: you are the server
Create game: a server is made for you

these are probably in different menus though, one is lan and the other is online.

It's exactly the same system as Minecraft. Is that too hard to understand?

You have to remember that some people aren't blessed with good education.
