fair enough Mike, you make some good points, I didn't mean to be ambiguous or make unfounded assumptions.

It would be cool if nano-lathe arms came up when an aircraft landed and was being repaired to visually show that it was being repaired, and still allow enemy units to target that aircraft and try to destroy it on the carrier platform if they could deal damage fast enough, or maybe some carriers would allow the aircraft to be pulled into an armored bay.

Airplanes that CAN fly don't need to land. Planes that CAN'T fly crash and burn. They may need to touch down for repairs, but this is the super future. Just fly through some repair nanites and let them do the rest.

So wait a sec, Backers want freeze-rays? I love you guys so much.

I can't wait until this game comes out now.

Enemy: HAHAHA, I HAVE 400 BATTLESHIPS OUTSIDE YOR BASE! YOUR SUBMARINES ARE DEAD AND I HAVE YOU SURROUNDED!
Me: Nope lol. *Freezes entire navy and kills them with my Commander*

Can we also have a Summon Water spell for Wizard KBots?

Wait, what, freeze ray? Who said anything about that? Iceberg boats are just good ol' fashioned Sci Fi. No magic required.
    Fixed. ;)

Would be interesting to implement this idea with a hovercraft approach. Which makes more sense then a ship, since the hovercraft will be able to take the land units directly on land as quickly as possible.

Have it sorta' slow in the water, and even slower on land... Hmmm... I think that would be fun.

My problem with slow naval transport is that no one would use it I think. If air transport is cheap, why bother with a more limited transport system when you could just properly protect your units using air and sea escorts that you would already need as escorts?

Air-Transports in TA where fast, but limited to carrying only one units... Mass invasions were impractical.

That's where the lumbering Naval Transport came in. It could carry more units, though, at a slower speed.

I would like Air Transports to carry more than one unit, but if they carry only single/small numbers of units, then that's where the Hover craft comes in. It would travel across the water, and unload it's units.

Usually that area is covered by AA towers (Which usually have a good range) thus making Air-transports doubly in the negative.

But it really all comes down to speculation. ;)

Would make an amazing experimental. Big carrier with like artillery stuff on it like a mobile base. Or stealth etc.

yeah that's the thing, Arial transports usually can't carry many units, and certainly not big ones. This is the way it is in real life also, but it also makes sense for the game strategy.

Jup. Totally makes sense. Tbh i like the idea of the hovercraft instead of ships. Look at the movie Battleship, it was also a hovercraft.

This is true, because we all know that in real life battleships can't powerslide.

    I wholeheartedly support this idea!

Sea-based transport has its place besides air transport simply because nothing is perfect,
and can add the following fun tactics/strategies:

+ Combating enemy local naval superiority through quick construction of hovercraft transports
able to ferry land-based units (presumably the only means of manufacturing you still have
effectively controlled at the moment, with air units already shot down by enemy cruisers).
This allows you to buy time and make for more exciting pitched battle between naval and
ground units, something we always need to see more often (artillery barrages are too distant
and mechanical/cold) Seeing the enemy trying to ward off your naval task force with boats
of tanks and bots firing and zipping around certainly brings out that satisfaction of sowing
desperation into the opponent, whilst providing for entertaining close-combat fighting scenes.
Note that this does not necessarily render hover units obsolete, because transports will
always be slower than each hovering unit (but makes up for it with increased armor and diversity
of weapons carried by its passengers). Thus, hover units can harass and scout and do sneaky stuff,
whilst open top transports lumber towards its targets to bring the weight of groups of units onto the enemy.

+ As others have pointed out, this enables troop deployment in the face of enemy air superiority.
This can prove valuable in offseting the often overpowered nature of air units later in the game.

+ Sea transport can take on unique role, such as transporting the heaviest of units that cannot be
hooked onto any air transport. This adds flexibility without overpowering units, because of the speed
penalty due to sea travel, just like real life.

In short, sea-based transports, especially with the ability for transported troops to open fire,
will create new tactics and more FUN!

That is more so in reference to an issue with there being a gap between the the shore, waterline and water deep enough for ships to actually traverse.

So you had this gap where no units could travel and couldn't get close enough to each other to actually do the pick up.

The Stock Transport system actually works mostly ok with land units, you just need to make sure the units you want to transport can path to the 'hooks' they attach to, we had plans to try and make something proper for BlackOps, but the system just wasn't robust enough and the designs were awkward at best.

That's why I prefer SupCom2's transports who use short range teliporters to pick up and deposit units.

Although TA's naval transports could certainly be optimised in the modern era so it's arm works faster and more efficiently.

Do we have confirmation of hovercraft units? what about underwater buildings, floating buildings, and seaplanes (from TA)
