Hey guys, I think its awesome if there'd be some decals on the ground in a base on spots where units travel often, since you seem to be fairly psyched with permanent tread marks and the like. In forged alliance the buildings also had a small area around them that made things look a bit more industrial (UEF had a nice one in particular). any plans on that? Thanks, Powerbear.
Re: proximity bonus and ground decals Here is a link to a big thread about proximity bonuses of adjacent buildings. viewtopic.php?f=64&t=43777
Re: proximity bonus and ground decals Keep the adjacency bonus conversation in the other thread, if you would, but this is a good place for decal discussion. Updated title to reflect.
Re: Ground decals question I enjoyed the ground decals as well. Would be fun to see that again or some other kind of interface of the buildings with the terrain
Will there be some kind of time-based terrain heal? Or will spots that got shot once keep the decals from any explosions etc that happened on them? Y'know, scorched earth type stuff... If it's time based, will there be slow recovery rather than "ooh, x time has elapsed, decal completely vanishes" ?
Any effects that mark the terrain will be permanant, and never disappear. This is because they aren't handled as decals, but rather modify the terrain texture directly.
Now THAT'S cool. Guess we'll be able to turn a lush green planet (or a dusty brown one) completely black with enough explosions...
Now when they are quiet, we can gently tell them how metal planets were in fact made. *cue environmentalist scream of torturous agony*
If decals are taken to the next level, become somewhat readable and permanent, it could open many doors in the strategy world. People being careful where they take their armies because they leave tracks behind, using decoy armies to leave tracks on purpose and trick the enemy. flying over or firing "assault teams" to avoid being tracked over distances. Sounds fun on theory. I would love to see it in game to better understand the possibilities and consequences of it.
From what I hear the planets are using a texel system similar to John Carmack's mega texture technology which means tracks and scorch marks are permanent.
