Hi I would just like to see where people stand on this issue. To the experienced Sup Com player, does fighting against multiple ai (preferably sorian ones) in a game help or hinder your skills? Ai's can do some things better than human players, and of course human players have some of there own advantages.
It's really going to depend on what Sorian decides to cook up for us. In FA, the Sorian AI's performance was heavily dependent on which map it was on. Sometimes it would flood you with units, other times it would be a complete retard. But what it was above everything else was; predictable. It did the same thing every time, more often than not it wasn't the best thing to do either. Blowing up an AI with a few friends was fun, but it was never good training against a human being who can think, adapt, and pull rabbits out of hats. [PS:] No, Sorian, you're not allowed to make Skynet.
Thanks for your thoughts. But I kind of meant that if you're playing against 3 ai or 6 if you have a friend, then the amount of nuke defense needed, or strong shielding you need to survive surely must bode well for what you come up against when fighting real people. Also when having team human battles, I find the introduction of 1 or 2 ai really adds a random factor to the game. It keeps people honest in the sense that they can't just use the same tactics over and over again, so it kind of turns on its head the perceived predictability of the a.i. I do agree that ai performance can be heavily map dependent, but more than happy that Sorian is on-board.
Nope. FA's gameplay was about controlling the field with a swarm of tanks, attacking hard and early. If you ever got to the point where you needed shields against the AI, you would have been beaten by a human. Now I can't say the same will be true for PA. Simply no way of telling until we get our grubby mitts on the alpha.
Now that isn't entirely true! Some players do like to turtle it out and bring the game to "shield and artillery" endgame. I'm not saying rushing doesn't work, it can be quite devastating. However, the games i have enjoyed the most myself are those who last a little longer and reached tier 3. So such long lived games are definitely possible. And I´d say that, yes, fighting against 2 -3 bots should be sufficient turtle-practice.
We're not talking about if they're fun or not. We're talking about whether playing against the AI and turtling hinders yourself as a competitive player. I am quite confident the answer is yes, it hinders.
This whole disscussion is scale dependant. If your playing world dom 80km there is no way of rushing your opponent the distances are just to large. Plus when the rush tactics are employed by players who dont believe in base defence they will find at 23 minutes in to the game a nuke on there commander will destroy them because they haven't got any nuke defence. I do tend to favor larger maps in forged alliance as then there generally is more room for strategy and navy.
Not everyone can run games of this magnitude. I couldn't until i got a 3930k @ 4.6 Ghz on the asus sabertooth. Now we all use this combo with other features like ssd raid arrays and 32 gig of ram in win8pro.
