The Homeworld IP is gonna be sold in the near future due to the THQ Bankruptcy..

So I was wondering (hoping) Uber could/would buy the IP. Maybe use the IP for the galaxy warfare in PA or as an individual game.

Comon Neutrino, sure you would have like a spare 50K euros for it

I think it will cost a lot more than $50k.

In another thread I posted about my friend Greg MacMartin. He's the one who came up with the name Homeworld as well as the company name Relic. We were both involved early on but decided to stay at Cavedog to work on Amen. Alex continued to build the company and did well. He's currently running Xbox Live. The guy we did the deal with at Sierra is now the COO of Valve. The gaming industry is small ;)

What do you expect the ammount they want for the IP? Would a homeworld type of game fit a PA galaxy warfare?

There arent much "defining" games but I regard Homeworld as one of them. I would really like to see a Homeworld 3 Kickstarter :)

Crytek bought the game Homefront alone for 500,000 ( they are making Homefront 2 atm methinks). Sega bought Relic, which contains the franchises Homeworld, Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k. And they used abit over 25 million dollars for it. Then again, i wish the games good luck as i find all of those 3 franchises to be really good games. Especially Company of Heroes. Regarding Homeworld, i would wish a HW3 game to come by. As you guys probably know, Homeworld 2 was a piece of art in 2003. Homefront didnt deliver as i expected when it came out, but has a good story. With alittle more refinement, i do believe Homefront 2 could be a really good upcoming FPS.

I would also that a game studio like Uber who care about pc gamers buy Homeworld ip and make one day Homeworld 3, even if you must wait several years before make it. The ip is for sale now not after PA release...

Actually the latest news are that the Homeworld IP and Warhammer 40K IP is not sold to SEGA? Homeworld was not part of the Relic deal and Workshop and SEGA are not answering about Warhammer...

Also there is an Indigogo fundraising going on right now for the Homeworld IP...

Lets see what the future brings. I cannot imagine though that Homeworld or Warhammer was not part of the package...

I would at some point like to see a Homeworld 3, but I don't think Uber is much advantaged by attempting to include such detailed space combat. Possibly a PA 2 thing, much like how more recent Total War games started factoring in increasingly detailed naval battles.

Some bare bones orbital/space mechanics are necessary simply because there are multiple planets, and units need to travel between them, however.

Well chances are Warhammer 40k will go to Sega since Relic have been the sole bearers of the most successful Warhammer 40k games like Dawn of War 1(favorite RTS of all time), Dawn of war 2 and Space Marine. Another thing that leads me to believe that Warhammer 40k is going to Sega is the fact that Sega also has the Warhammer Fantasy IP which Creative Assembly will use to make a Warhammer : Total War game.

It seems to me that GamesWorkshop and Sega are going to be the new tag-team since THQ has fallen. Honestly, I wished Relic would have kept the Homeworld IP since they created the games and it was all a fan's dream for them to make a Homeworld 3. Those being some of the best Space RTS games to ever exist.

You know, you don't really need to keep the Homeworld name or lore to make an amazing space RTS. Sure it would be easier to market, but I think that most Homeworld fans would find out pretty quickly if a game was trying to be the spiritual successor to Homeworld.

    It worked for Supcom.

The core concepts of TA are just some game mechanisms (flow economy, simulation based combats, reclaimable wrecks etc), while narrative elements are quite important for games like Homeworld, DOW etc, so I think to create a spiritual successor for TA is much easier than those games.

Sega is the best publisher out there for PC strategy. I'm pretty sure the IP is in good hands.

To clarify, all Sega bought in the auction was Relic and CoH. All of THQ's IPs that weren't in active development weren't part of the auction, and are still held by what's left of the company to be auctioned off in a few weeks. Sega might well pick up Homeworld then, but they don't have it yet.

Exactly, this is why we are asking for a studio who has members of the original homeworld dev team, i know 2 studio who could do Homeworld 3 in the proper way: Uber entertainment and Blackbird. The indiesgogo project is run by web developpers... If only this project was run by modders i could really believe in this project but not with some unknown people.

The most important thing with an Ip it to conserve it spririt, and the Homeworld Spirit is pretty complex; So i hope that Uber will participate to the future auction.

The worst thing which could happened is that no one buy it, and that the Ip is abandoned like darksiders Ip.

"Abandoned" has a fairly particular meaning for intellectual property. It would allow anyone to make whatever they wanted with the property, which would not be such a bad thing.
