FAF Whips out GW!

Anyone heard about Forged Alliance Lobby Client?

Well, it seems they or meaning the people who operates the client is funding a operation to do a "Galactic War" over their FA Client for players.

And they had this

Are they stealing 'ideas' from PA or this is open source found on the web for others?

the only thing that is nonsense here is your post...FAF is a great thing, after GPGnet was dead and without support, and now even down for several months. Im at FAF for a year now and if it wasnt for FAF, I wouldnt have played any epic RTS in the last year.

And that has to do absolutely nothing with PA, what is supposed to be stolen? Galactic War idea? that is as old as TA...

First, the idea of a Galactic War style Meta game is nothing new, TA had Boneyards after all.

Second, you can't steal Uber's code when chances are they haven't worked on it yet at all.

Third, you really should research claims like these before going public with them or at least try to sound less like a jerk when you do go public.

hahah you guys are funny thinking I am being a jerk or some *******. I am not being ******* nor claiming anything. I am simply saying I find it oddly enough to see FAF was doing this and PA was going to do the same.

If you want to point figuers at me like little children go right ahead. FORGIVE me for not researching **** as I do not find the time to do my home work as life has me pretty much tied with 'Other things' than worry about keeping in touch with the WEB.

They certainly copy pasted the Galactic War source code from Planetary Annihilation to FA.

You've learned the importance of saying what you mean and meaning what you say then I hope?

It's extra important on the internet as well because it's just words, with no way to attach intent or tone without using more descriptive and/or accurate vocabulary.

Zero K has a pretty fleshed out Galactic War styled metagame, and of course there were Boneyards and PhoenixWorx for TA. I'm surprised FAF took this long to come out with their own. And why not? It's an idea that's been done by many TA-style games out there.

Now if Starcraft implemented it in one of their expansions, then we could gloat and say they were copying TA . . . :lol:

I agree, this is a pretty uninformed reactionary post OP. You can claim ignorance in relation to the existence of other attempts at GW type gameplay if you want. But if you are going to find the time to post such a rant then you'd do well to research it first or not bother.

FAF GW will have almost no impact on PA, it's just a style of campaign.

I think FAF even said they would looking at making a connection to PA's GW when it came out...

Hahaha, I'm not sure if I should wade in or just get the popcorn out.

Sod it, I'll get involved. The guy who created FAF seemed to be getting pretty disheartened with the whole thing, reading between the lines I think he was quite justifiably getting fed up with a small minority of vocal people who were criticising his decisions.

Since PA was announced he has been far more enthused about the future of FAF, and it's wonderful to see. The OP seems to have entirely missed the goodwill that Uber have generated, and he seems also to have missed that what is good for FA is also good for PA. the vast majority of FA players are very excited about PA, in fact I bet a huge chunk of the Kickstarter came from FAF users.

Galactic War is an exciting idea that was loved in TA. Seeing how much enthusiasm there was for GW in PA must have at least partly inspired Zep to try to implement something similar for FAF, and that is great news for the community as a whole.

This is not theft. It's not even competition. The fans of Total Annihilation-style games are one big community, and what is good in one game is good for the rest. Just look at Zero-K, an open source game based on TA but massively evolved over the years. If some ideas pioneered by Zero-K don't make it into PA then I'll eat my hat.

Read it and I respect that if FAF want a GW, go for it! I don't care what they do.

I started this post due to a 'OH, COOL, FAF is doing a GW how good of them!' This is what I meant and everyone is thinking I am some FOOL claiming something and I really meant to say 'Oh, how interesting is that FAF is doing a GW just like PA' when it comes out.

NOW STOP thinking I am some kid off the street who does not know anything when it is clear none here knows me!

Pretty sure your last post just subtracted another 10 years off your perceived age.

I never said that you were a child or implied it, nor has anyone claimed to "know you". You are putting words in my mouth and are generalising everyone as though it is everyone against you. We aren't out to get you ghosteyez, we are just calling you out on your uninformed post and informing you otherwise, it is as simple as that.

As for it all being a big misunderstanding, I don't buy that. With content like this in your OP:

Are we expected to believe that what you really meant was "Interesting, Oh how good of them"? If so then you really need to make yourself clearer because your OP reads as something completely different, and it isn't just me saying it. Insulting other posters in this thread, and telling people what to do in capital letters really isn't helping your cause either.
