Can anyone explain to me the whole "other" experience thingy that has 252 or 255 lvl?

Japanese are very cautious on which Pokemon they fight.

It was something like kill Ratata for speed, Mantine for health, etc etc for attack etc etc

    Explain.

Indeed Charizard can fly, but it couldn't. reason why I said couldn't not can't. (Red/Blue he couldn't. Yellow he could)

I'm guessing you're on about EV (Effort values) points which are earned for earning experience in battle from the pokemon beaten. For instance... if you was to kill a magikarp which grants 1 speed EV when you earn EXP, even a pokemon with EXP.share would earn the 1 speed EV. (so any pokemon that earned exp would earn the EV point(s))

I think it's every 4 equals one point of the base stat but they're still affected upon levels. so a level 1 might only get 1-2 boost in speed if it had 252, while at level 100 it would gain around 40-60 speed.

255 is the max on a single stat and 510 is the max overall.

You can also get items that boost the EV such as your proteins, carbos and swift wings etc.

you can also get held items like a power bracer or anklet and even the macho brace which either grant +4 in the stat (even if the pokemon doesn't give that EV) and macho brace multiplies what you would have earned. so magikarp would give +2, but the down side to these items are your speed is lowered so if the wild pokemon is the same level as you it can be hard to train as they will more then likely get the first hit.

By the way, this also works in trainer/gym battles. so any exp will give you an EV point depending on the pokemon beaten.

I bet this sounds like a right mess

If you're just playing for the single player, don't worry about EV's

    Oh and that ^

you should only go for the best EVs when you can get the right IVs to go with them. Which both aren't important unless you're wanting to go online.

Thank you for breaking it down.

I think I've lost 237 brain cells after reading that.

Please post links of EV stuff.

Pokemon battling online seemed pretty boring. It was all about the OHKOs.

Rest, Sleep Talk, Fissure, Horn Drill
    Taurus FTW

Is that still allowed to happen?

It's probably allowed to happen in online, but I think most American tournaments n stuff go by smogons restrictions and tiers.

When do you guys think is the best time for EV training?
ASAP? Around in the middle of the campaign? After the Pokemon league?

And, do I get an EV after defeating my rival (the guy with spiky hair) on our first battle?
I can lose on purpose if it's necessary.

People normally don't EV train till after they've beat the game.

They build their entire teams from scratch, making sure every pokemon has the right nature, ability, egg moves, and IV's.
