This is the home of the F.A.Q.

Please limit posts to "questions" that aren't currently answered that you think should be. Will reserve four posts to provide additional information, and not every single question that gets asked will get added, but if it's a good question, it will be. I'll start with the basics, and we can go from there.

General

What is the current state of the game?
PA is still in development, still in pre-alpha. Last updated: February 25th, 2013

Where can I pre-order the game?
Glad you asked! Go to http://store.uberent.com
Current available editions are: Combat, Warfare, and Galactic. Keep your eyes open for new ones.

When will Planetary Annihilation be launched?
Our launch window is currently anticipated during the summer of 2013. As we get closer, more precise dates may be given.

When does the alpha/beta start?
Before we launch! In seriousness, when we're ready for getting people in. We want people playing and testing the game as much as you do. Alpha will not start until at least 2013. Beyond that, we aren't sure of the exact start of either alpha or beta.

When do I get my stuff?
For digital only backers and all pre-orders, keys will be provided as items become available. That means alpha keys will go out first, followed by beta keys, followed by retail keys and keys for any other items, such as the soundtrack, digital art book, etc.

For physical items, we're still determining the shipping order. Most items will not be ready until right about launch. However, a few items might be ready before then, and if it makes sense to do so, we will of course send those out sooner rather than later.

The pre-orders included some cool stuff, like the Theta commander. Do I get that?
Every early backer (at the $15 level and up) will receive the Theta Commander as thanks for backing the game early. This is in addition to any other items they'll be getting at their chosen backing level.

Will the pre-order prices go up?
Our planned prices are always subject to change, but at this time, $40 as the entry level price to buy for people who missed the early backing is not planned to increase.

I was an early backer, do I need to pre-order?
Your early backing was your pre-order. That doesn't mean you can't do a pre-order, either for a friend, or for an extra copy so you can start your own machinima empire right now, but from a "do I get a copy of the game", they are the same thing. Just which cool add-ons you get will depend on whether you were an early backer or a pre-order.

Can I upgrade my pre-order to a different package
This is online for preorders now, and will be available (again) for early backers soon. You can access it by simply going to http://store.uberent.com and logging in with your UberNet account.

I need to update my address/email address/confirm the contents of my order!
You can update your information at https://store.uberent.com/Account/MyAccount at any time.

How can I get regular updates on project status?
For now, we rely on the Kickstarter mail list, these forums, Facebook and twitter to get the word out. Once a majority of people have gone through the finalization process (we still have a large number of people who haven't finished yet), we'll also setup a email alias so everyone who was a backer or pre-order can get updates. These will be infrequent, but hopefully content rich.

Does the thumb drive include its own key/Do beta and alpha keys become retail keys?
Short answer: Yes. If you ordered a thumb drive, and a $90 backer level, you would have, at launch, two full retail keys - the alpha key which will convert to beta and finally to retail, and the added retail key on the thumb drive. Extrapolate similar examples as you will!

I need to edit my address, email, etc! Where can I do that?
It's still a work in progress, but you can go to https://store.uberent.com/Account/MyAccount to edit your address currently. You can also update your email address, and your Display Name (For game only - phpBB doesn't support display names).

Also, the account page will show your purchase history. For early backers, it will usually show $0 spent or smaller than the total, because store credit already existed, but you should be able to determine the basics of your order from this page.

T-shirt sizing chart?
We have been using the following sizing chart to refer people to - if you select the standard US sizing and compare it to your local region, it should be the best approximation. As soon as we have exact t-shirt sizes, we'll post them here.

System Requirements - STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE
Currently this is just the "minimum we expect to be needed". We have not locked down any more specifics about what will be the ideal system to play on, but you will need to support at least the following:
- Dual core processor
- Shader 3.0
- A decent OpenGL driver - if your card doesn't come with one you might want to look at some of the 3rd party OpenGL drivers out there.

Store Specific Questions

Why do I need to use the Uber online store to purchase Planetary Annihilation?
* While we will in the future have Planetary Annihilation for sale on other services, one of the biggest advantages of buying directly through us is it means that other than payment processing fees, every penny of a purchase goes directly toward development of the game, with no middlemen. This means the game gets that much more love and attention to make sure it is, in a word, Awesome.

Why do you only take PayPal or Amazon Payments as payment options?
* We currently support these two payment providers as they are very secure, and most people around the world are familiar with them. We will be adding more payment providers in the future, and if there are major providers in your country that you’d like to see supported, please email us at info@uberent.com!
* With PayPal, you can pay with Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, and American Express. Debit cards that have the Visa or Mastercard logo are also accepted. This is on top of their wallet and eCheck payment options.
* Amazon supports all those as well as Discover, JCB, and other flexible options.

Can I upgrade?
* Yes you can! If you’ve already made a purchase in the past, simply click the upgrade button, or follow this link.
* If you are an early backer, we're working on a new upgrade page now.

Why do I need an account, and what do you collect with an UberNet account?
* Even though Planetary Annihilation is considered DRM free, to download the game, patch to the latest content, you will need an internet connection and an UberNet account. The only information we keep about you in your account is what you provide: Your user name and your email address. If you happened to buy something that requires physical shipping, we store your shipping address as well, but only if you require shipping.
* As promised during the Kickstarter, you’ll still be able to play the game offline and in LAN mode, without connecting to the UberNet servers.

Can I buy copies for my friends?
* You can! Prior to the start of Alpha, we will have a way for you to gift extra keys to friends.

I was an early backer, do I need to pre-order too?
* No. Your early backing was your pre-order, as long as you backed at least $20 (or $15 for the limited offer option)

I pledged for an additional beta-key for a friend. Will he get the Theta-Commander with this additional beta-key too? I hope so...

This development cycle is insanely fast.

I'm insanely dying to watch first real time proof of concept demo

Comes was sitting in my office yesterday saying "This is awesome" over and over.

I want a nice little fun planetary viewer or creator early for us alpha backers I don't care for gameplay so much yet!

lol, I guess many would say the same. I even bet you would make money with an Testing Viewer Application, where people can 24h (well more 8h each day) view the game testing (no code included)

will the art in game be like the art seen in the kick starter trailer?
