Are we going to see the return of non-aligned neutral races in pre-established facilities that can be captured, or act as a barrier/obstacle to you attempts to grow your economy. Because we are now dealing with space combat, we can have encounters with unknown, and exciting extra extraterrestrials, and capture unique weapons, base, and units for our own use. Of course these could be turned off in options. Thoughts?
hmm, at least we deal with space and combat - half way there. nothing I've read (or can remember reading) indicates that. There were some pro/con speculations on that topic (viewtopic.php?f=61&t=34507), but nothing really explicit from official side. It might be something used as some kind of expansion feature later on. It would fit the characteristics as not necessarily needed for the base game, a bit dev time consuming (depending on the extent of implementation) and addition to game variation/planet diversity at a later point. But that's just my speculation.
Aah, yes, I meant Spacy combat, i.e. alien worlds where anything is possible, not specifically space battles per se!
I like the idea of random encounters ala Sword of the stars! But it might not fit into this game and what they are trying to accomplish. They are not focusing hard on single player and so forth where this suggestion would fit best! I think this is better left to the modders I would be greatly annoyed if i am playing multiplayer and it turnes into Warcraft 3 in space.. Man i hated creeping in that game :/ (and for a on/off feature it seems way to much work to implement)
By and large prior threads on this topic, (encountering sentient or non sentient life in the game) were not well received. It was generally felt the development time could be better spend elsewhere. I for one would like to see non sentient critter type life (bird like life scattering from trees as the army plows on through etc) but it really does depend on the ratio of development time vs game-play value. As for capture-able factories that was also not terribly well received. Consili pretty much has this under control, but I have one last query; That sounded like a sales pitch, or something to lure people in. What field do you work in, advertising?
ET's would be about as dangerous as Warcraft sheep. Hit reclaim. Done. The presence of metal worlds suggests a previous age and style of war. Fans of TA know that the Arm+Core war lasted over a thousand years, and we know today that the complete face of war can change in less than 100 years. It's entirely possible that the war has already swept the galaxy multiple times, in completely unique ways, only to be reignited by a major new breakthrough(the last age, of course, being that of the instant transmission Gokummander). Relics from previous ages would be completely unrecognizable or useless to a modern commander. Few things would still remain, but perhaps ancient superweapons might be workable now with the latest in supertech. Any existence of neutral factions would be best tied to the lore of the universe. Perhaps they are stagnant offshoots from previous ages of war. Perhaps they are completely alien cultures with the unfortunate coincidence of choosing the same galaxy. They can add a lot of flavor and background, have rich histories and bright futures only to be snuffed out in mere minutes for their precious metal. Whoops. Technically, all combat happens in space.
We did have NPC bases in some SupCom maps, yes, multiplayer maps. In the middle of a particular 3-way map there was quite the little base, it had multiple laser turrets, and a lot of reclaimable metal Sorry I can't remember the map in question. The decision was do I take the time to bring down the turrets, so I can take the middle ground and reclaim the yummy metal, OR just leave it as too much trouble/time/effort. It added a nice flavour to the map, and it could eb turned off. Does anyone remember that? That's what I was referring to.
Critters yes, left over civs not so much. It was pretty gimmicky. And in this age of unparalleled destruction I don't think they would even notice another punny civ.
That is like saying that Jupiter is bigger than a duck. It is true, but only so far as it goes. Specificity in language is important to reduce ambiguity and misunderstanding.
