I hate it in movies if robots express human emotions via sounds.
    They don't need a voice.

I agree, the only need for robots to communicate using human language is to communicate with humans and since most people are pretty happy to accept that there are no humans, why would we assume that robots would continue to communicate using human language?

Robots don't communicate to each other using human language. When we communicate to robots we do it using code - even if we don't realise it. What we see is just a UI and it's just build up on layers of code until it's something we can interact with. As time has gone on the way code is written has become more and more accessible, and these days a large portion of people are capable of doing it.

As I type on this keyboard it is just producing a string of data that the computer is interpreting and displaying. Firstly, a computer could scan and interpret this code far faster than I could read it. Secondly (and more to the point), computers have no reason to communicate to each other using this kind of language. Once you remove the human aspect the term language takes on a new meaning.

I see no reason to believe that robots would communicate in any other way than bursts of data. If that would be audible then I think that's artistic license for the sake of player immersion. Perhaps that's the real issue here. Not what is real, but what best engages the player.

But what would be cooler then your commander talking like Megatron, threatening to slice over your opponents hide like an overstuffed pig because he is weak, and you are strong!

Because I, the player, am the commander and I don't talk like megatron. Incidentally I am not in the habit of talking to myself either.

That would get annoying very very quickly to a lot of people, and be tuned out by the rest.

A correction, o apostropherically challenged one: People in favour of not systematically repeating the same 'jokes' until they've been run into the ground are the ones who like humour. You're the one who hates humour because you want a situation that, at best, will ruin a number of perfectly good jokes through overuse. Look at what the Internet did to Portal if you want an obvious example of how repetition can destroy good comedy.

Why would they be telling jokes, that's not what I said.

And Portal was only ever slightly funny, its the internet that made it into 'good comedy' so it's your own fault.

If you units talked like megatron that would be a joke unto itself. It would get old fast.

And portal was delightful when it was released, heathen.

Your brain's opinions.ini file appears to be corrupt. Delete it and download a new one from an approved distributor website.

See I hate units giving off stupid phrases
Like I tried HoN once and played a champion who used Axes. He made an Axe joke... and said it more often the more you clicked.
I kid you not I heard it several dozen times before the game end.

However in LoL I love the characters of Nocturne and Draven because they have such personality in what they say.

Also the old Apocalypse tanks from RA2.

So basically, voices are cool. But make it a command to make them tell a joke or something, cause otherwise its painful

Voices are fun for a while, but then they're just annoying. Best examples!
It is an old fashioned tradition that doesn't fit for titles like TA or SC.

I prefer a small ring of light around the unit (It makes clear which unit is selected). Perhaps a hydraulic noise or a noise that the machine actually would make.

Best sound effects are to find fore example in District 9 or Star Wars or maybe Transformers (I don't like the movie, but the sound effects are good).
