How are the forums regulated?

So I have the forum rules as posted by Ekanaut.

I was reading these because lately I see a lot of topics locked and I'm not entirely sure why.

I most specifically remember seeing a lot of "non-issue" then something being locked by a mod.

But for some reason a lot of random things such as..."Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages is not welcome. You will be banned (possibly without warning depending on the severity of the issue) if you persist in this behavior. This includes one word or single picture posts and replies"....where someone puts a one word or picture post that really doesn't explain or add to a discussion is done. But nothing matters there, until you have 20 pages of it.

Or..."Flaming - We do not tolerate abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior."

I see a lot of this, I'm guilty of doing it as well. But quite often those posts are left up...does that mean mods are considering them to be valid arguments?

I see this rule broken a lot as well....

"Don't be a **** Be nice to the new players and remember you were new once too."

So my question is how are these things regulated...is it rules or subjective or what? I made this a public post because I am sure there are a few others wondering.

It depends on how popular you are over how the rules are enforced.
Say something bad about a well known player, and you get a warning. Whole thread turns against -you-? Forget about getting anything done about it.

Didn`t help ridley, now did it?

Also, if those rules were enforced seriously, loads of people would get banned.

This seems like another unnecessary thread...

    Edit:
Stop double posting, echochrome. Stop being lazy and edit your post.

I'm pretty sure it's subjective...a lot of people have been open dicks and racists(you know who I'm talking about) recently, and nothing has been done.

This should get another thread, but the fact that it does should really show that something needs to be done.

I really only double post when something comes up after I initially post.

I hardly see how that is a personal attack. He was double posting, which is against the unspoken rules of all forums.

Then some people need to be banned for a bit.

    Warning, Temp Ban, Perma Ban.

We don't seem to have a system for it though.

Even mods break these rules and lock threads that are well within the boundaries of these rules just because they can. I understand these are forums...but its part of the community, people see it, and they see it has hardly any regulation whatsoever and that it consists largely of people breaking rule #1. We keep talking about how the game should be improved to attract more players...but then we have our forums...

VERY true. Hell, I'll even put myself on the guilty stand for some of this. I can admit when I'm wrong.

However, I can't rock with some people "getting away with murder" around here. It legit bothers me.

I received a forum warning infraction for 'spam' just the other day :?

I'm sure I deserved it though, my 'spam' most likely stuck out like a sore thumb considering there is very little spam on these forums
