I was thinking for the galactic war metagame, would it be one match for a solar system with the total number of people in the lobby and match (the total of the two clans e.g. 40< players) in one solar system or it would it be many games simultaneously split up over many different solar systems (about 6 matches with varying amounts of people in it)? I think the latter would keep the momentum of the game better because you could use other players as reinforcements in key battles and could open many fronts over many solar systems . Sorry if this has been mentioned but I haven't seen it in any posts and was just wondering, that's all guys/gals
The galactic war thing sounds like it could go two ways: 1) It's a remake of TA Boneyards, where a large map is broken down into a ton of individual games that players fight over. 2) It's like the Dawn of War campaign, which is basically a single player version of Boneyards. I imagine it is very much up in the air at this point.
Procedural generation is another thing that I think was mentioned for GW. Each system being a generated map.
Oh right I see, I am familiar with the layout of the DoW campaign but not familiar with the TA boneyards layout, I will have to look it up and yeah I guess it is really to early in development to have any solid ideas as of yet but yeah thank you for the insight anyway
I'd guess it'll work similar to the Dawn of War expansions where you slowly fight on little maps that are sections of one big map. But if that's going to be multiplayer then it's going to have to be very large, and taking over the map is probably going to have to be a bit slower. Also has anyone played the Shogun 2 Total War multiplayer. It's sort of a social gaming set up that kicks people into individual matches. So the whole thing is essentially just one big match making service. But each match is tied to a location in the world map. So if a certain clan wins the majority of matches in one province they keep the province.
I do not like the idea of having another multiplayer feature in the game. Galactic War was supposed to be SP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would really like to have another comment on that - so if it is just another multiplayer feature - I totally bury all my hopes for this game.
Where did you hear that? It was officialy announced that Galactic War mode was capable for being Co-op, 40 ffa OR single player.
What I wanna know is if it is Turn based or real time. Because 40 Player FFA could get crazy, unless you can set the Galactic war to assassination victory. The end of such a war would be truly apocalyptic.
I don't know where people got the "GW is for 40 ffa" idea. But as elexis quoted, 40 player ffa was never specifically mentioned for GW. They only said they wanted to design the engine in such a way that it could theoretically support 40+ players.
People also seem to assume that 'Galactic War' means that everyone is playing the same game at the same time. A galaxy is made up of many many SOLAR SYSTEMS. The game is fought on the Solar system level, so there will be no interaction between solar systems, apart from any meta-game influences they choose to implement.
