I tell you it's slow to communicate between processes. You say they only have to communicate with the server as a counter-argument. This kinda implies you think it's faster...

Rendering multiple viewports is pretty easy. It's simply a matter of changing the render target to a texture (~100-200 lines of code to set up + 5-10 lines per frame per window), changing the camera angle (required anyways) and doing the normal rendering pipeline per window. Then rendering those textures to a set of quads which can easily be moved around the screen (~50 lines).
I set up such a multiple-viewport system myself once, in a few hours. And that was without knowing anything about rendering to textures beforehand.

You're making a rather large assumption that the client will have the entire simulation locally accessible to it in which in can peer in to.

This is a good point, however, all data required for the viewports will need to be accessible anyways. Since viewports might overlap at times, it's still more efficient to have only 1 process which contains the data. Which was the start of the discussion.

...Calm down a bit. With this poll UBER can see which resolutions we like to use and they can bring into game.

    Add 1440x900 to the poll

Didn't neutrino mention something like support for an infinite amount of monitors in the stream?

the question is not what resolution you will play it at it is how many windows will you have open.

other wise it is as high as my tv will support

yep it will only be limited by your hardware how many you can have playing the game

Same here, though judging from some slight stuttering at max detail on SupCom 2 I Might have to upgrade before bringing in the second screen

I might be looking at a computer upgrade too for PA. Saying that my 2.5 year old self built computer is holding up remarkably well, it might be in with a shot.

I'd definitely build my own computer again when the time comes.

An extra monitor might be on the cards too...

I'd better get saving up :)

I like playing FA at 5760*1080 on a nvidia surround setup. Somebody released a movable UI mod for FA so I was able to center the UI. The only issue the game has is the unit render distance. So when you zoom out just a little bit all the units change into their strategic icons. I hope that is adjustable in this game.

Dont forget about lower resolutions, like 1154x865 or something like that. I dont remember those fancy pixels. Btw, SMNC dont have that resolution i think, and that makes me sad tiger :<

    1440x900

That's my screen's native res., so I figured it would be logical for me to choose that one (which sadly is not on the list).
