Lets say I wanted to make a video game, maybe nothing more than say a flash game or whatever for Armour Games or maybe even make it onto an iPhone or something. Nothing too big. What are a list of tools I will need for it? Like how powerful of a computer, what sort of software is available? Is there any devices that will let me draw on some sort of pad and it will show up on the computer. I don't even know what to call the device?
For non flash games you'll need an engine. Unity and UDK are two common ones. Photoshop for textures. GIMP is free, but I've never used it. If you do 3d, you'll need 3d package. 3D Studio or Maya are pro level ones, Blender is free. You'll need a text editor to do coding. Visual Studio is a pro level one but notepad would even work, although you'd need a compiler to get deep into it. Then you'll need an SDK for the platform. Most computers will be more than powerful enough to do a project of the size you're looking at doing.
Also, how do you learn to use these? Do they come with tutorials? I do have some experience with using Flash, but something tells me not enough.
The pad for drawing on PC is called a Tablet, Good ones range from $400-$600 depending on the size your after. I believe Wacom makes the the best brands, I don't have one though I just have been told they are the best. For Flash you need Adobe Flash Professional. (There are probably free Flash makers but it has a trial you could use I think) If you don't know how to do most stuff yet you will probably have to watch a bunch of tutorials (Beginner>Intermediate>Advanced) I like video tutorials because you are shown what to do and how to do it, Text tutorials are generally a lot longer with a lot more explaining. Check Youtube for video tutorials or Google for text tutorials. You won't need a good computer unless your using 3Ds Max or Blender and doing high polygon modeling, A mediocre computer will do fine.
i did polygram modeling back in 2002. does it need any more resources nowadays? well, i guess it does take more computer strength to do more hi-depth polygram modeling. i think most people will be fine with "megaman legends" graphics tho, unless your trying to go pro lmao.
Love Megaman Legends. I don't think things would be too different from 2002, As long as he is not recreating Crysis he should be fine.
I computer at home is a piece of ****, and crashed when playing games from time to time and has these weird dashes in the screen. So I need a better home computer than that, plus it is like a million years old.
