I believe those are all planets from our solar system, not from our galaxy.

I think it would be fun, but I'd also like to see what they have in store for us. More so the latter than anything

I am confident that this will exist one way or another. If the developers don't make this map, the fans certainly will. It's just too funny not to include this as one of the available maps.

I believe the maps were said to be procedurally generated. In other words, you will likely be able to set certain parameters (number of planets, number of moons, asteroids, various sizes, etc), but the map itself is basically "random". It's generated via an algorithm, so you get a different map every time. However, they also stated that you can save maps you like so that you can play them again in the future.

    And tweak them as well.

Basically seed data + whatever tweaks were made can be saved off. Hopefully these can be "published" so others can browse / play them. Then the community can vote the best to the top.

Thanks for chiming in, Neutrino ;) So you mean you can tweak an already saved map to adjust it a bit and improve on things you didn't like?

When you said galaxy, I thought you meant the exo planets that have been discovered, not the planets of the solar system. Still fighting between the moons of Jupiter do sound appealing.

I would be surprised if a map of our solar system wasn't included.

Procedural, or Procedural with the option to edit things, it makes no difference in the end.

I'm sure some smart monkey will figure out the right method necessary to create a near perfect replica of the solar system. With a little bit of luck, that can be sorted out in alpha so the developers can easily include it as a regular feature in the release version.

So I put it out there as a challenge to all you geeks and eager alpha testers.

    Make it happen.

I hope there are different texture/prop sets for planets so there can be different looks for planets (with the same logic) so we could actually have our solar system.

Or they could create their planets with a set solid colors multiplied over base textures. Something like 3 shades of ground, 3 shades of rock, 3 shades of shoreline and a water color. Basically how the planet in the trailer is built up. (could have been built up :p)

In other words, planets in all colors of the rainbow!

That only leaves lava planets (like Mercury and Io) ;)

There seemed to be indications of terraforming but I havn't read anything about what they meant by that. Could mean we will get an editor which will be really fun to see all the maps people make with chokepoints and such.

I would love an exact replication of our solar system in the game :) if there is a easy to use editor I would even try to make it myself.

I love the idea of playing fan made/generated maps. I hope you have the option to save the map AFTER you have played it so you know how fun it really is and if it is worth saving.

Maybe temporally save the last 5 maps created/played?

I don't think using anywhere in our own solar system is necessary for the developers to include in the game simply for one reason: the modding community would do it all on their own in the first month of release. :p

Also, at the risk of offending a certain "religion", I want to blow up planet Xenu. :p
