This is a stretch, but will it be possible to blow up a sun?

I assume nearby planets would be decimated, and planets on the outskirts might survive (depending on the sun).

Would obviously be a late-game option, requiring a lot of preparation.

If not, I cant wait to see what modders/mapmakers do with this game :)

I'm guessing if anything, this should be addressed by mods.. (hopefully, it will be possible to code up something that does this!)

If mods aren't limited just to new units and maps then yes.

I can't read lips silly, you are just text!

Altough I wouldn't mind if somebody made a mod for it, immagine if everything was all of suden dark, ice everywhere and snow.

It's unlikely that this will be in. First off, How are you destroying the sun? It will be much much larger than actual planets. Asteroids, planets, nukes will do nothing to it. If you do find a way, then it will be suicide.

A supernova is a massive event. The remnants of a supernova can be many lights years across (The crab nebula has a radius of 5.5 light years). Also, a star has to be a certain size (8 solar masses) to go super nova. Simply put, the smaller stars will not explode, and there is nothing that you can throw into them to make them explode. If a larger star explodes, even the outer planets are toast. If not by the explosion, then certainly by radiation.

Conquering a system with a massive sun would potentially be very profitable but also risky if someone else manages to destabilise your sun (supernova, large solar explosions, shutting down the nuclear fusion, ...).

I'm sure the game doesn't need to follow the laws of physics ... it wouldn't be all that fun if it did.

Stellar Annihilation involves massive Planetary Annihilation ... the only question is if there is funding for it and of course if it's something the team would like to do.

    p.s.
Blowing up stars is quite manageable once you have the interstellar travel technlogy and have been at "endless conflict" across the cold void.

    except balance... :p

if the devs are going to include multiple-solar-system-gameplay
which is not sure at all yet, I think all matches would result in trying to blow up the other sun first, which is only one viable tactic, thus unbalanced and uninteresting.

maybe this could work if the game goes to galaxy scale XD...
but I doubt the average computer could handle that in the coming 20 years...

(yes spore did it, but that was not real-time on each planet simultaneously, if it is, I'll eat my socks)

Well, I think that it is not possible to build an entire base on stars.. but what about building large amounts of engines on planets to push it toward the burning sun? At least it will be possible to do that on asteroids, I think..

Is it even possible to blow up a sun? I mean, only the most massive stars supernova naturally, or a white dwarf (a dead star) can sometimes supernova under specific circumstances. The only one I can see sentient beings feasibly cause is the white dwarf nova, but still, it would take a crazy amount of energy to spark.

Wouldn't this be the big feature of solar annihilation?
