I see a male artist, he draws something like this: I see a female artist, she draws something like this: I've also noticed that a lot of women are into really freaky stuff like bloodplay and such while guys are more into positions than fetishes. ...Why? It's horrifying. inb4 generalizations
Thats fuckin creepy. Daddy issues, I bet. Male sexuality is suppressed until our late teens, so we have a lot of lost time to make up for in adult hood. Now post more pictures done by male artists
Hats don't come cheap OP - where did the example of female art come from? I want to see more of that. I'm not gay it's just I've watched 95% of Pyres anime recommendations so I've seen plenty of pictures like the first one.
Drawing ti.ts is hella boaring. The blatant sexualisation of art is typically just a way to compensate for a lack of creativity, in my eyes at least. Of course sexual imagery in art obviously can and does work, but, well I digress. Don't want to get into the nuances. Freaky stuff is great though.
I'm not sure if it's a gender thing so much as an interests thing. I don't know why you seem to have come across such a queer coincidence so often, but I personally tend to draw a lot more women than men-- I definitely find women more aesthetically pleasing despite not generally being sexually interested in them, and don't have any deep-seeded catholic guilt issues with sexuality or anything-- so I tend to draw some rather "sexy" images. I do also like horror and abstract things, but again they're not my usual jam. I don't feel like sexuality in art is negative unless it is applied disproportionately (as it almost always is-- I'm looking at you, Marvel, Capcom, DC-- This list is too long. ****.) or solely for the sake of selling prints/copies. I like looking at sexy things, and beautiful things, and meaningful things, and sometimes scary things, and sometimes they can all coincide and that's awesome. Maybe a lot of female artists are disinclined to draw racy things because they've been deadened by the constant exposure to their gender being sexualized and made pointless beyond aesthetic beauty and value as sex objects? I can't really say because while I acknowledge that that is a real thing and it's frustrating, I also really like drawing things that appeal to me. TL;DR: I don't know-- But I don't think your sample size is large enough.
This is going to come out wrong no matter how I phrase it, so I'll just say it anyway! You don't think Tony Stark, Thor, and those other guys are sexualized? (Like I said, it sounds like I'm accusing you of being sexist or something, I'm not, I'm genuinely curious. Most people I see discuss the topic go 'Sexy woman = sexist' and 'sexy man = power fantasy', but...) Edit: When I say like Tony Stark, I don't mean lifestyle...I mean looks. Like how Tom Cruise has a TON of fangirls because of his appearance. Or maybe it's his money or something. I don't know. Edit 2: Is Tom Cruise still relevant? Christ, I'm old. It's mostly girls I know and stuff I see online. Maybe East Coasters are just weird.
I like the second ("female") picture better. Much better. If anything, you should be asking "Whatever with men?"
Sex sells, and most people like looking at 'sexy' things or whatever. People drawing sexualized images is kind of expected at this point. But abstractly horrific things are scary. Who likes being scared/disturbed? It's a negative emotion. That's basically how I'd describe it. Positive emotion vs negative emotion.
Oh! (Ahaha, don't be scared! I am not a crazy "feminazi" that will interpret everything in the way that will offend me most. If anything i would say I'm an "equalist". SEE WHAT I DID THERE? Amon my game today.) But you're not wrong, it's definitely evening out recently-- at least, men are being objectified more, anyway. (Not sure if good thing, or worse.) I can't count the number of gratuitous man booty shots in The Avengers. There is a difference generally though in that the physical appeal of men in fiction is secondary or tertiary to their other merits such as power or money or heroism, where it is the primary value of most female characters who seem to fall a little flat when it comes to any other visited upon valuable traits. Overall though I feel like this is improving with time and awareness, as well as the addition of female writers and artists in industries that were formerly somewhat "boys clubs" (gaming industry, comic industry, even advertising industry). Sorry for text brick. Typing on my phone is hard enough without trying to format. Also, it's not that Tom Cruise is too old-- just too obviously insane. ALSO also, the kilt post is invalid; Why is he wearing underwear? Seriously though, I think you underestimate the marketability of such a thing.
