The Orange Box says hi, is it Summer 2008 yet?

For those who don't understand that line (and I imagine it's the majority), Team Fortress 2 is another multiplayer game with a ton of content that has been added since October 2007...for the PC (and now Mac) version. Valve (the creators) started putting out new maps and usable items for the various classes, but because of console limitations, they couldn't be put on the consoles right away. They have said that they're working on getting the content on the 360...someday. This started back in spring of 2008.

There is still no sight of it coming to consoles. In fact, a simple glance at the patches to the game shows how much support has been given to it.

Despite this, it is still very easy to find a game on the console version. It's usually 2Fort or Dustbowl, and there's a bug with Hydro that can cause the host to crash and/or kick all clients, but it's still lively. Sure you won't find thousands of servers to choose from like the PC version does, but you can still find games to join.

If something isn't done about rage quitters, it's basically like rewarding them for doing it. Rage quitting allows players to control the their win-loss record. That's not fair to those who play the game legitly.

Really, there isn't any way to solve or ignore the problem without someone getting angry over it. We're all screwed. You can't leave it alone or regular players get screwed. You can't punish it without crappily connected players getting screwed. Something needs to be figured out. I stand by my ideas, but I'm just not sure how to go about it.

nothing in this gamer covers your losses. you could quit all the time and have 3000 wins, 0 losses; or you could not quit, have 3000 wins, 3000 losses; nobody will know but you. the only thing that is covered publicly is your kills, wins, and earnings; which are all brought down by quitting early.
    therefore, they are punishing themselves.

A penalty is pointless and would solve nothing, if you hate rage quitters play in a party honestly its not hard to find one.

And their teammates, and their opposing team. I don't enjoy steamrolling over a team when half of then have quit, and I'm sure you don't either. It makes the game less enjoyable for everyone.

And whether it's public or not, it will still be tracked by players.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It isn't as easy as you think it is to find a party to play. There are a number of reasons as to why people choose not to play in a team, a lot of which they can't control. Don't use that as an excuse.

Maybe there should be a disconnect stat. It would alienate rage quitters, and wouldn't affect other players too much.

I've said it multiple times for multiple games. If there was a disconnect stat sitting right above your K/D ratio, it would deter most of the stat whores that quit all the time. "Oh, you have a 11.3 K/D ratio? You suck because you have a 95% disconnection rate."

Also, in those HUGE blocks of text you guys seem to enjoy writing (honestly, any thoughts that need to be expressed can be done so in two paragraphs, come on), I saw you guys calling MNC a casual game. I'm going to have to disagree with that. A casual game, in my opinion, is a game that can easily be picked up by anyone and played without too much of a learning curve (Halo, CoD, GoW). While MNC has a much more relaxed and humorous atmosphere, I think it is geared more to the hardcore gaming crowd. The game has a steep learning curve (I really didn't know what I was doing until I was about level 85), the tutorial sticks to the basics, and the How to Play doesn't cover half of the things you can do in this game. Just my opinion.

After reading all your posts here is my BRIEF personal opinion.

Anybody who selects the LEAVE GAME option in the in-game menu should have to sit through a rant from Mickey Cantor about their worthlessness and how they are a disgrace to the PRO community, then receive a career pro-tag that shows on their permanent game record that they purposefully chose to quit.

People who quit to dashboard , turn off their console or get disconnected should be given the benefit of the doubt and not receive a penalty, Even though they possibly are quitting loser scumbags.

Nine out of every ten of those scrub hosts also block classes that could easily stop their preferred class(such as a sniper host blocking spies: or pretty much any Turtlefort host blocking pretty much everything). Unless you can host well yourself, playing TF2 on the 360 is just a stupid idea since June '09. If it wasn't for that, no doubt I'd still be playing it.

I'm against such a thing as well. Disconnecting means disconnecting...Again, it's one of those things that could either be easily bypassed or would punish people who have no control over it.

That's awfully closed-minded of you. Have you never thought that some people would prefer to make their posts into encyclopedias? Or just really, really long.

    Have fun!

I'll propose something simple to this.

For every quit, it counts it as a lost, for every disconnect, there is no loss.

Every game these days does this. Just about every one. The good majority of these are still popular immensely.

It a simple penalty, but that overall losses to wins can hurt your reputation, thus discouraging quitting unless you absolutely have to (lag, etc.).

The game should be able to tell between a disconnection and a quit, and there should be no way to try and fool the game into thinking one is the other.

This way, some deterrent is there for the quitters (the more I think about it, the more I like the announcer idea), but the penalty involved won't affect a majority of players who accidentally disconnect (especially during host migrations, which are really improved now for the most part preventing disconnects).

    My two cents.

there are sevral problems with quit penalties.
they have been used in halo gears and multiple other game. and they never get it right. the penalty is not enough. or the way it is implimented doesnt work.

lets say the penaly is to give them a loss.
in mnc we have the option to quit anytime by pressing start and selecting quit.
if they made it so that doing so before a game is over would give you a loss. what do you think quiters would then do? they would dashboard or pull their ethernet cable out to avoid a loss. now in gears they had this very problem and made it so you get a loss nomatter what. the problem then is if someone loses connection threw no fault of their own they get a loss.

so question is. is this problem so big that they need to waste their time on it. i say no.
in a pvp game you should have no quit penalty other than a delay on when you can get into a game. and even then is the work worth it?

OMG THIS! I played a game called Animal Crossing. If you reset the game (can't "DC" an offline game) man this goober would come out and spam long text for minutes...to long minutes of text saying why you shouldn't reset the game. Now, this was GCN we're talking about, so xbox 360 should have the capabilities to do half that. The player should be forced to watched an blk and white film reel about the "Cons of DCing". Hey, I might just make a video like that as a suggestion....

While I'm no fan of RQers, I really only have a problem with the ones that pull host and quit. I would like to see some of the funny suggestions like the forced tag and Mickey's wrath, but more than anything I just want them to not be able to host for the next 24 hours. Maybe after too many in a career they can never pull host again unless they go private match. Please.
