I don't think the background story to MNC is as important as the imagery of an ironically dystopian future. You see, we have become increasingly obsessive over television, fame, and vanity. The future that MNC takes place in what may seem extremely opressive and dark (according to these clues you have listed), yet there are thousands of cheering fans, advertisements, and endorsements for pros who take part in the bloodsport. It's almost as if the people of the future have been completely stripped of their rights, yet they don't even realize it because they are too caught up in the exterior glamor of things. I like to think of it as a model of how things could turn out if we don't slow down and reevaluate the way we live our lives and what we think is truly important.

Overall, I think it's a very artistic concept and I friggin' love it. On another note, I don't think there should be an official background story. What we already have is enough to sort of analyze and come up with our own reasons as to why the futuristic world of MNC is the way it is.

Anyone else love the movie Idiocracy? It's a must see.

I love the way it's all treated so casually, almost as though Mickey Cantor is being tongue-in-cheek.

I love the fact he bets on the teams and at the end sometimes says that he lost his money and the team can expect to be met by a lynch mob outside, or how he's won and is going to vegas

It is a clear reference to the gladiatorial games of Ancient Rome, which were used as a sort of mass population control in the later days of the Empire. By keeping the population entertained and happy, the population was more likely to overlook the decreasing quality of life in the empire, and less likely to try and rebel.

It is the same thing with MNC, just in the future. The general populace is kept entertained by MNC, and distracted from the dystopic conditions they live in and the breaches of their rights by the government.

Yea. It is something I noticed very early on, that some people could completely overlook if they aren't paying close attention. Also, the Assassin's bio page delves into it a little more if you read it.

    Edit: From the Assassin Bio:
"When the Assassin dreams she dreams of a society that throws off its self-imposed shackles, unafraid to live as free men and women without the comfort and safety of a predictable existence. Silent by choice, she keeps mute so that her works will not betray her feelings towards the ruling overclass. Most of all she dreams of living as an Outlander, of raising children with a likeminded male warrior who rather die a free man than be consumerist slave."

Mentions the "ruling overclass," "Outlanders," and "consumerist slaves"

I think Uber put a lot more thought into the backstory than anyone might think.

Lol, I never looked at the storyline so in depth, sounds pretty cool now you look at it.

Though there's only one thing I request, we can never see Mickey Cantor's face. EVER. It would ruin everything. Keep him in our imagination.

Good catch. We do have a history of MNC and how it came to be internally. We liked the idea of introducing parts of the story contextually.

The game takes place in the future (obviously) and you say you have a "history of MNC" -- is it more a history of the world and how MNC came to be, or is it a developer's history about how you came to develop a game like this?

Either way, we'd love to see it published!

Keep the future history of MNC unfolding in the context. It's brilliant that way!

It all just whets the appetite for a single player campaign/adventure/season in a sequel...
