I"m not talking about the bugs, like host migration, game picking laggy host, etc. That stuff is bad, but understandable and will probably be fixed. My issue is balance. This games matchmaking has a couple glaring issues IMO. 1. The game seems to initially try to balance the teams based of their rank. However this is not a bad thing if the rank was based off skill or MS trademark system "TrueSkill". The problem is it seems to be based off just the number rank which is a bad indicator since a bad player could actually keep ranking up and up just by playing a lot of games and not necessarily because he is good at the game. In games like Halo this works well because if you lose a lot your rank goes down, so for the most part your constantly being matched up with similarly skilled players because everyone sort of plateaus at a rank where their actual skill lies. 2. Seems that after the 1st match the balancing is thrown out the window other than number of players on the team. I've played sometimes 3-4 matches in a row where one team is just crushing the other team, yet they are steadily kept on the same team as long as many people aren't leaving or if they do leave new players come in during the lobby. The game should re-balance the teams after each match other than players in a party. My suggestion would be to keep the monetary rank, but add a true skill ranking that can go up/down based off skill and use only that for matchmaking purposes. Really doesn't matter if it's visible to us or it's a rank we can't see and just is used in matchmaking. Having even/balanced teams based off skill is what makes game fun and competitive.
The game actually does keep track of skill level behind the scenes and matches you up accordingly. It doesn't use the player's level.
yea a true skill system would be nice. i saw a new thread that discusses the skill gap that there it is. i like to play with people at my skill to get better and better instead of just getting good kdr's all day because im playing with people below my skill. playing with people on the skill LVL of like genocide ASpence Sauceman fojib and perhaps myself would be great.
A developer stated that it's already in the game and in use. They said they had "very good reasons for not displaying it". As to how well it's working, who knows? But that's what they said.
With all due respect....i do not believe this. There is no way they have a team-balancing program in use that has any kind of logic. It is statistically impossible to have so many unbalanced matches if that was true.
I prefer not to have ranking systems... the only way n00bs get better is by getting continually owned... not by playing against other n00bs.
Seriously? I want to play a match where there is decent challenge, but not one sided. Why can't noobs have fun too? What I thought this game was benefit from is skill based leagues. Like what is in Halo Reach and Starcraft. It would also be appropriate within the sports theme. But I haven't suggested before because I didn't think the player base was big enough for that type of division. Maybe It will be in MNC 2?
Well not everygame would be lopsided... if everyone was put in a giant pool some would be evenly matched... other games would be educational. All I am saying is that early in XBOX LIVE's history, people actually got better at games when they could learn to play against tactics of further developed players. The learning curve is much slower when you pool people of "simmilar skill" together. As it is now, can you honestly say you have struggled in many matches of public servers? Probably not, if you're on the forums, it is likely that you are at lease above average in comparison to other players. I would wager that most of your games you win, yes? Because you care about learning the game... and that's a good thing. I honestly don't think the matchmaking is even working if 98% of the public games I'm in are easy victories. I say we make one big melting pot of players and if people want competitive rooms they can have private matches with a bunch of good players.
You are right. You will eventually get better after getting your *** handed to you several times. But I still believe there are players who are not as ultra competitive on xbox live as compared to its start. Many don't care to be at the top of the leaderboards. Players often plateau at a certain level. It just happens.Would it be so bad if they wanted to play players in a similar situation?
That's true, but I'd say a vast majority of people coming into a already released game as new players quit the game in frustration instead of actually playing a few dozen games until they learn the game. I hope at least matchmaking matches players on the trial together instead of putting them against higher ranked guys.
Exactly. This will be prevalent when the patch/DLC is released and a wave of new players are introduced.
