The way OT is being played completely subverts what seems to be the designer's intentions for regular play. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise. For those dullards, here are the facts.

    1. In multiple interviews prior to the game's release, the developers talked about how the game was designed around some pros ESCORTING the bots to the opposing team's MB to breach its shields so it can be attacked. Other pros would defend their base and build up their turrets. The value of teamwork was highly stressed. This was supposed to be the love child of FPS and tower defense.

    2. Building up your own base and spawning extra bots to attack the enemy base takes money.

    3. Juice costs money.

    4. During regular play against a decently defended base, juice will help you get in, kill a few guys, and destroy a turret or two. You still need teamwork and coordination to do any significant damage to the MB since you have to get the bots there too.

    5. As the game stands, it can be more easily won by a team SITTING BACK and not ESCORTING any of their bots and waiting for OT to purchase juice (which they have the money for since they didn't need to spend it on turrets or spawning extra bots). Worse than that, the team that did fortify their base, it means **** all because their turrets won't significantly affect juiced characters.

    6. So, as it's being played, three of the game's core gameplay elements (escorting bots, building turrets, and splitting pros between attack and defense) are being unused. This is still an element of teamwork involved in sitting back, but that does not demand the level of teamwork and coordination the game, when played as intended, does.

So, what do we have? A game that was supposed to be a cross between FPS and tower defense having its tower defense elements almost completely ignored. Release week, I thought this game was amazing in terms of it doing something new. Now, it's just like every other class based shooter.

To the people who are like, "just play better/play it as it is," do you find it so hard to believe that sometimes, the rules of a game don't support the designer's goals? Sometimes that stuff doesn't come out until it's been played by a lot of people.

What people are complaining about is that the game currently encourages you to increase your skill level at stuff that has almost nothing to do with a game that was built around the idea of an FPS/TD hybrid. They don't see that as fun since they bought the game with the expectation that they would have to improve both FPS and TD skills to play well.

Alright, the game is meant to be played the way it is in regulation. The reason overtime is the way it is is because you have been playing for 15 minutes already and the game should end quickly. You have 15 minutes of normal gameplay and then they just want it to end. Maybe there will be a different variant for competitive play. You said 90% of the community is pub players. How many agree with you? How many are actually active? How many care enough to change it? The fact is, not many games go to overtime, and if they do then usually the team with map control wins.

People that are bringing up skill, or the fact that "their team is so good we don't get to OT, get better LOL!" are missing the point completely. Not everyone has a full team of "ULTR4 1337 PL4Y3RS". Some people play this game for fun. Problem is when this game turns into turtle TDM mode until OT, the fun is basically lost.

What is the point of bots and turrets when the other team sits back and doesn't attack until DING DING DING OT! Turrets die quickly and are useless. Bots die quickly and are useless. Map control literally means ZILCH in OT because everyone runs for the other Teams moneyball. So why play a certain game for 15 minutes only to be bombarded with a totally different game that is completely broken for the next 2 minutes.

Drop OT. It isn't fun the way it is. If people love it so much, make an OT gametype and let them juice rush until their hearts burst. If you need to, drop the time-limit completely. Make the game last as long as is needed until one Moneyball is destroyed. OT just doesn't fit in with the gameplay of Crossfire. Period.

I have an even faster way to end the game. Only go into OT when there's a tie in terms of damage to the MBs.

I'm asking you straight up. Do you think the developers intended for people to ignore building turrets and escorting bots during regular time? Is the tower defense portion just meant to be a distraction?

That's the point. If one team already did more damage to the ball then the other, then the game should end right there.

Look at the English definition of Overtime:

Sports . an additional period of play for deciding the winner of a game in which the contestants are tied at the end of the regular playing period.

If it's just a matter of word choice, then find something to call it other then Overtime. I'm not sure there is a word in the English language for "This sporting even needs to end quickly, regardless of current state of score or players". If you can find one, let's use that instead of overtime.

Most sports do try to finish things up quickly in OT. In football, it's Sudden Death. In basketball, they call penalties less. Soccer and Hockey have shoot-outs.

I like OT, but I just wish it was maybe 30 seconds shorter and you couldn't buy juice.

That may be the point, but if your team has the lead then you should finish theirs easier. If you let them win, it's your fault. If you are shooting someone and they run behind a corner with less health, should they die because they are weaker? No, you try to finish them and if they kill you, they are just better. And I'm very confused on how you say you want the game to be team oriented, yet you are applying it to public matches.

The point if my team could be leading the game during the entirity of it, pushing the bots and the base, but it didn't matter because the other team just turtled up until OT and then juice rushed our moneyball.

    I can make analogies too!

In every sporting event ever, overtime only happens at all when the two teams are tied at the end of the game. You wouldn't go into overtime in [insert sport here] when one team is ahead of the other. This game should be no different

Yes I play public matches and would like to enjoy them, thank you.

So how are you letting them get out and run to your moneyball before you destroy theirs?

Because once overtime comes my only option to finish their moneyball is to juice up and do it to theirs first.

The argument I (or anyone else for that matter) am making, isn't that the OT juice rush is cheap, or unfair. Not at all. The argument I'm making is that it makes the game less fun and it goes against and completely ignores several key gameplay components, which makes for a less interesting game.

The goal of those sports is to, "Score more than your opponent in X minutes/innings/periods/etc." They go into overtime when neither team has done so.

The goal of Monday Night Combat's Crossfire is to, "Reduce the opponent's moneyball to 0 in 15 minutes." It goes into OT when neither team has done so.

Those games you are comparing MNC to do not end at X point total. The Lakers do not score 100 points and end the game before the final buzzer. The Icemen do not win the game at 15 minutes when the Hot Shots' moneyball has health. The sports analogies in this thread are spurious.

I always thought the moneyball shouldn't go down in OT. Or the team that is losing should have their moneyball go down well the winning team has theirs up for playing the best.

All you have to do is maintain the spawn trap while 1 or 2 of your teammates go back for juice. You shouldn't be losing. If the other team is spawn trapped in the first place, you should be winning in regulation. There are 15 minutes of gameplay with the key components, then overtime to finish it. Notice how everyone who disagrees with you has had tournament and competitive experience, we generally know what we are talking about.

My point was more that analogies are dumb in the first place so I pretty much agree with you.
Elitism aside, the strategy you seem to be suggesting still ignores the bot escorting and turret defense parts of the game.

I don't care that you're a better player than me, that doesn't mean anything. The point is the game isn't very fun in it's current form and something needs to be changed.

I can only assume Shammas is being deliberately obtuse at this point.

We don't all play games just to win. We want to enjoy the process as well. This game was advertised as featuring a heavy tower defense component to its gameplay. As it stands, the best way to win the game is to ignore that. You and others who only play for the sake of competition apparently don't have a problem with that because you're willing do whatever it takes to win. Others want to play the game that was advertised to them.

Is that so hard to understand?

And what we said was that not 1 tourney match went into OT, so we did use the tower defense aspect, as should you. What I'm asking is, what is so hard about pushing your bots in and winning the game before OT?

So, you have a small sample you want to compare against all the complaints appearing on the forum? You yourself described your group and the others as ELITE, so obviously you stand apart from the much larger public group. Should the game only be fun for you?

The problem is when one team plays the game like it should be played and the other doesn't. Let's say the team playing the game properly puts forward four guys on offense and two on defense. The other team keeps all six back in a cluster and farms bots for money. Anyone PROs gets close and and the defensive hole they've created (usually involving multiple firebases) chews them up. The d-bags have all their powers maxed and are facing enemies that have spent money spawning bots and building turrets (so they have weaker abilities). Also, if they die, they respawn right there. Obviously, this isn't a competitive situation (well, for the non-ELITEs).

Let me ask you this? Why are you arguing so hard against changing it? If the tournament is representative of how you guys play, then it wouldn't affect you much at all. It's currently affecting all of us negatively. I played four hours yesterday and watched 85% of the teams I played do the stuff I'm talking about (effectively ignoring the tower defense stuff).

Any time a team is camping by their spawn, they give you map control. You can spawn trap them and push your bots in to win the game easily. They are basically giving you a free win if they do that. Even if it goes to OT, your team has control of the juice and shouldn't let the other team get to it. I don't see how you can lose an objective game when the other team sits in their spawn. It sounds like you are saying that you just let them bowl over you once overtime begins. If that's the case, they are just better than you and you deserve to lose. I hate to say it, but maybe you should re-think your strategy and get better.
