Nice one, good to hear the game will be large scale.

Oh, and lol @ "Bungee Online Tournmanet" - really? Funny thing is they were even showing the BUNGIE website, couldn't they just read the spelling from there?

    Short but sweet.

I can't really agree with digital downloads being the future of games though. That pretty much limits customers to people's parents or kids who've figured out their parents's credit card number or ebay account info.

Besides I like having a hard copy of a game on my shelf more than just as a file floating around my drive.

I also love having a hard copy but objectively, digital is what everything is going towards, whether you like it or not. Even this game will be digital-only.

Also just because a game is digital only doesn't mean that there couldn't be versions where people send you a box, disc, manual or whatever else is cool. It does mean that you won't need to pay for that stuff unless you actually want it.

I think that digital games will certainly become more and more prominent over time, but that doesn't mean that they will completely replace physical copies. There will always be people who prefer to actually own the box and the disc, especially older people who aren't very good with / trusting of technology.

First congrats! Good publicity and for free, can't argue with that! :D

Digital will become more important over time but right now it really depends on the service where you buy. I absolutely hate Steam. First their policy that you can't return a game that doesn't work, they gather information (who knows what they do with it), they just switch the $ symbol for for us European customers which means we often pay 150%, playing offline is a hassle, that's just harrassment... I could go on.

Impulse is far better in customer support in my opinion and you can even get a hold of the owner if the bytes hit the fan. I had a complaint because I didn't get a theme that was promised to us beta testers. Made a post on the forum, somewhere, 10th post maybe. Guess what, a few hours later I get a PM from one of their support employees: "Added the theme to your account, enjoy." Now that's support! If you buy a game on Impulse you get a fair Euro price unless the publisher is a pig. No need to be online to play, only for the patches.

I know Impulse is smaller and you probably sell less copies than on Steam but if you can get your game on on both, please do! I will certainly get mine from Stardock. They have fast servers too, always had my connection maxed out (5MBit). They also offer an unintrusive copy protection called Goo (who on Earth comes up with those names... :D) and you can be sure they will support you to the best of their abilities if they publish your game.

Anyway, it really depends on the service imo.

There are a couple of good things about Steam though. For example Steam is simply contained to the Steam folder. It does not spread anywhere around the system and only uses the windows registry to store things on the go. (However, I recently learned that Steam may install a steam service in the Common Files directory under Vista/7 due to access right issues.) Impulse on the other hand puts stuff all over the place, so to speak. There is one folder for programs, one for games, one for archives and a temporary file location. This is not necessarily a bad thing of course, after all you can control where all these directories should be. But Steam makes backups easier. If you want to transfer games from one system to another without downloading it from the net again, you can simply copy your whole steam folder and be done with it.

Steam also offers a lot of other services like the SteamCloud, where games can store anything so that a player has his profile etc. where ever he logs into his Steam account. But impulse is still young of course and Stardock plans on bringing more and more features to their platform too.

Fun fact: Having a friend in the US and ordering a game trough Newegg is cheaper than buying it from a store in Europe.

A friend of mine is in Australia right now and said games are almost double the US prices.

Another fun fact: Having your friend in the US send the game to another friend in Australia and then to you is cheaper than buying the game in a shop here.
And then publishers wonder why I totally hate to pay for any additional content after they made me pay the equivalent of US$75 for their game... :D

The Aussies are in a really tough spot: They get the games late and have to pay more - if they can get them at all due to their stupid no 16+ games laws...

    PS: 222!

As you can see I'm perfectly capable of changing my mind and adjusting to new conditions. I started using Steam because of MNC and not only did I come around, I'm loving it now!

I still don't like how they make us Europeans pay more for most games but that's not really an issue when I buy games during a sale. I have over 40 top games on Steam and I got all of them for a bargain. They cost less than $300 combined... :3

link doesn't work. The only reason Uber should ever be on the news is because they were severely beaten in a blanket party outside of their office late night. Suspects include many highly enraged MNC 360 users that were lead astray by the company's many lies and broken promises.

So you think it's funny to have us physically harmed because you're disappointed in a game? And you wonder why more developers don't want to talk to their fans. Sheesh. Real funny.
