SMITE? It is a 3rd person Moba currently in development (like SMNC) by HiRez Studios, and is supposed to be released around the same time. Looks really good.
You know somewhere in the back of my head I knew that this clash was inevitable. My two favorite developers come to blows. Uber and Hirez fighting for users paying or not. One, a company founded by a man with a drean and a lot of cash with resources and lots of effort put into any part of the project. The other a stall collective of 17 experienced game designers who may or may not be backed into a corner by Microsoft. I demand a rap battle.
Played it at PAX today. It was totally fun. The games are different enough that it's hard to compare the two.
Honestly, I just don't see Smite doing well. the reason I like MNC is because it is a class based shooter before it is a dota clone and it has alot of action. Smite looks like every other RTS if you change the perspective of your character... I think people are going to think, "Why play Smite when I can play DotA 2?"
I don't see how the game is even close to SMNC? It literally plays just like LoL, HoN, or DotA2 if you had a mod to change the perspective...
SMNC == 3rd person shooter with DotA elements. SMITE == 3rd person DotA game with shooter elements (aiming) They are kissing cousins.
We chatted with the Smite devs. Super nice guys and their game looks good. It feels very different than SMNC.
The difference is, MNC is heavy on the action and has tons of map elements. It is more of a shooter than an RTS. Smite is first and foremost, an RTS. Thats based on the couple vids I saw but for the time being thats what it looks like to me.
At the very least Smite will be interesting. A change in perspective can be fun. The fact that it's F2P just means there's zero risk in playing. It could turn out to be awesome. It could turn out to be crap. Either way I'm going to check it out because free. That and the inevitable comparisons to SMNC. Feel means nothing to the droves of people that will compare them without playing.
