The same way you talk to anyone else, with your mouth.

This would be amusing, if it weren't so true. The older generations can not grasp the simplicity of how modern technology works, or perhaps I am biased because I have grown with technology. I see this on a daily basis in the workplace. If it doesn't have a physical knob which in turn moves physical gears that will rotate a physical dial to the setting you want something, they can't wrap their brains around it.

    Of course there are exceptions...

    What's this "wheel" thing again?

Well, it's all about user interfaces. Take the change in design of Office 2010. It is easier to find stuff if you are not used to the old system - if you are however, you have to start over. Same with Windows 7, we had to update who knows how many tutorials at work because MS changed the UI. Good thing it is easy to find tutorials on both with Google. :D

Case is point my dad. He is 50 after watching a DVD he will ask me "Alright how do I turn the TV on?' Me being a smartass I say "The TV is on." He usually responds "Well why is it a black screen?" I say "Because it's on Video 1 and not TV." "Ok well how do I turn the TV on!?" I show him the TV/Video button.

This happens every time he watches a DVD or Netflix.

Pretty much the same for my parents. I write the important stuff down for them but then they forget where the note is... *sigh*
