People playing down his death as something that will just be replaced are uninformed. Already the dollar (and the yen, which is what is important to me) have inflated due to his death. Yes, he was an idiotic decrepit old man already on his way to the grave, but his overdue death is a strike against Al-Qaeda who considered his ability to escape death for so long as a sign that their God was in control, and that what they were doing was right. Yes, he will be replaced. But his successor will be hardly as influential. Both on terroristic impact and on moral support for his followers. And furthermore he too will simply be weeded out, just as Osama bin Laden was, a larger damper on their overall morale. Osama bin Laden always told the story of his past in war, during which a bomb shell landed next to his head but simply did not go off, and how that meant that he was invincible etc. But now the world knows that when you deserve a bullet in the head, you will get one. Period. Anyone who replaces him will get the same. Especially now that Pakistan no longer has the power to harbor terrorists, and, after this, even fewer countries will be willing to do so. Al-Qaeda has learned that they are indeed petty, and not impervious nor protected by any fictitious Gods. The rest of the world has learned that if you harbor a terrorist, you will be discovered and you will face world-wide humiliation/shame, on top of whatever fate awaits Pakistan that has yet to be seen. Morale of Al-Qaeda will be hit for a time, but there will be a new leader for the Americans to use as the face of their 'war on terror' excuse for starting oil wars us British blindly follow them into. And even the small morale hit won't really do much; these are religious extremists. They aren't going to give up because bin Laden got killed. The amount of time he evaded America: World Police will be used as testament. And what does morale matter when you have a bomb on your back?
Small morale hit? They thought Osama was basically a god. He had them riled up over the fact that he is invincible, then he gets a bullet in the head and goes ka-put. It's a bit more than a "small" morale hit. And most of Al-Qaeda is probably too stupid to actually plan something major. Cut the head off of the snake, and the body slowly dies. We just cut the head off of Al-Qaeda.
"Retaliation this" "Retaliation that" We were in as much threat when Bin Laden was alive as we are now he's dead but now that he's dead there is a chance Al Qaeda will just fall apart, as Deadpool said they worshipped Bin Laden like a god, because he kept escaping death they thought he was Immortal. The Americans have made Al Qaeda realise that if you mess with the bull you will (eventually) get the horns, they'll be lost without him, and with any luck they'll get whats coming to them too
I'm almost positive he left some sort of structure in case he died. We'll see what happens as time goes on...
