Games like Castle Crashers and GTA4: Episodes from Liberty City were released on the 360 as timed exclusives and were released on the PS3 a year later. Is there any possibility of MNC coming to the PS3?

Patches and DLC on the PS3 work the other way around compared to XBL: Sony sends the requests and the developers approve them (at least that's what I read). Maybe it would be of Uber Entertainment's best interest to have MNC published onto the PSN.

    Thoughts?

Depends on how much work they're willing to put into it. PS3 runs rather differently than the 360 and PC so Uber would have to do a lot of extra coding for MNC to properly work in the PS3

The last thing Uber needs to do is further divide their team to work on a 3rd version of the game. They are struggling now just to maintain the 1 version of the game they're working on (PC).

I think they have their hands full as it is. PC sales are slow compared to the xbox version.

The PS3 uses quite a different CPU architecture than the Xbox 360, which will require quite a bit more work to realize it's potential. This is why quickie ports from the 360 to the PS3 are generally inferior as the game is not programmed to utilize all the cores in the PS3's CPU and instead rely primarily on it's GPU, which is slightly inferior to the 360's.

However, I think if the project was feasible, and they are able to fully utilize all the CPU cores as well as the GPU, then MNC could come out looking far better than on the 360 as the Cell Microprocessor is the real gem in the PS3.

Something Ekanaut mentioned is that the PS3 has been broken, which I assume has to do with either the PSN being down, or the PS3 being jailbroken. From this tidbit, I doubt a PS3 version will ever be reality.

Fanboys in general deserve to be laughed at. No matter what he is a fanboy of.

This, us non-fanboys have multiple systems to choose from. We laugh at fanboys.

If PS3 can handle the epicness of Portal 2 how couldn't it handle the epic-ness of MNC then?

Btw. I dont know if its too hard to port MNC from PC/Xbox to PS3, because even a small company called Fatshark ported their game Lead and Gold to PS3 before Xbox 360.

its not whether it could handle it, its how well its ported. the port could be very buggy due to the software and hardware architecture of the PS3 which would ruin UBER's name, doing this would also take up a lot of time and resources from the dev team, who could be making new DLC for mnc, which would be more beneficial than a new platform. not worth the ROI imho.

as much as i hate to say this it would probably be beneficial for uber to stop supporting the xbox version and create the ps3 version...sony wouldnt be as arsey about the updates

It is the job of the game engine (Unreal Engine 3 in this case) to handle mostif not allporting issues. Unreal Engine 3 does support PlayStation 3, and other platforms.

That being said, developers are free to add some OS-specific code on top of the engine code, which they would then need to manually port to any other operating system.

There could be some porting involved on the part of Uber Entertainment, but it shouldnt be at such a low level as what was suggested here unless Uber Entertainment made a heavy overhaul on their copy of the Unreal Engine 3. Unreal Engine 3 itself should be handling the utilization of the cores, etc.

Still, Monday Night Combat crashes my PC more often than any game or software I have ever used in my life, and this is simply not possible if they were to have made the game just using Unreal Script. They have definitely used a lot of C++ in order to realize this game, and since only by coding at a very low level could they achieve the crashes I get, it does suggest that they may indeed have actually modified the engine to such an extent.

For some strange reason people lately seem to think I am attacking everyone or whining, so I want to point out very clearly that I am just talking about the general case (unmodified engines should handle platform-specific issues), followed by stating that there is still a possibility that the quoted persons are correct (to make it clear I am not just arguing).

In the general case though, it should be either a licensing issue or some issue with copyguards or protections, rather than a code-porting issue.
This is why Square Enix does not release our games to PC, even though our internal engine (Crystal Tools) works on PC, and most of Final Fantasy XIII was developed on PC. Both too easy to pirate and to cheat at the games on PC.

On a side note, during my interviews at Square Enix, they were especially interested in my game-security background, and if I can come up with proper protections, we might actually see future releases of Final Fantasy on PC. But dont hold your breath.
