I find any system designed to encourage a certain behavior provides better results if it offers rewards for desired behaviors rather than punishing aversive ones. Flipping K/Ds is not only illogical, but it's just downright absurd. I honestly think the best way to stop K/D obsessions is to stop tracking it. Locker room, leaderboards, maybe even post-game page if you really wanna make sure no one gives a crap about it. The more something is tracked, the more people obsess about it. Especially if it's forced in everyone's faces.

Tinygod was one of the better posters here. Shame that he was browbeat away by moderation intimidation.

Good players will know they're good without having the scoreboard tell them so. The reason why I feel this system would only get the right people is because only the wrong people care about this particular stat. Casuals don't seem to mind. Call of duty keeps track of kdr but it's the levels and the prestiges that are at the forefront of the average player and the kdr isn't even on the main page of the gamer card IIRC.

Edit: With that said I really like the process described in Lyrae's post but I don't know if anyone cares about stars anymore. Anecdotally people seem to have soured on them.

I don't care about K/D, but just because of this I don't want a negative one. I earned those kills so I want a reward because I did so well. In this case it's a stats, it's useless but it's there and gives people a sense of achievement.

That is very simple and basic stuff. If you don't understand that you should, like I said, stop thinking of more ideas. You are horrible at this.

And no, tinygod was someone with terrible ideas who never thought about them too much.

It's not a reward though. A guy that just plays sniper buys the game. Every match he hides in the locker room and peeks out kills a guy. He only dies once from when he sneezed and fell off the perch in Grenade III. He does this over 9000 times and thus his KDR is OVER 9 THOUSAND. It tells you nothing on how he played. Look at some of the ESEA stats for pros at TF2. Some of the best players have KDRs at around 1.67 because they play with people on their skill level. I'm sure these guy's sense of achievement is just fine.

Tinygod understood what people wanted from games and uber would have done well to listen unless they suddenly developed an allergy to money.
