I think this game needs more tips and what not highlighting that the point of multiplayer is teamwork and not going solo racking up the kills, the tooltips in the loading screens should be changed to highlight this point. I don't have any suggestions myself but too many times I've seen new players rush into games with assassin trying to pick off pros when that is not what they do best. You shouldn't punish people for working as a team and not racking up major kill/death ratio, that is what makes people work solo for kills more often than not. I'm just sort of rambling but hey it's what I think this game needs.
Maybe just a pointer towards the forums? Honestly I feel that most of the 'players lack of understanding' can always be solved by pointing them here towards a few of the more stronger developed and well written topics, then ever by ProTip's flying by the screen or quick added help pages. As the game is pretty much an online experience as well, one should have access towards a web browser, and as such be able to surf the new and gather information as needed. Just my own 2 cents on said topic thought.
While the game is indeed teamwork oriented, you can surpass this requirement with the right play-style and/or skill. This is what I do. Each match I pretty much accept the fact that my team will do nothing, and prepare myself to do a hard carry. While it is a pain in the rear, this attitude prevents many a ragequits due to watching what my team does in the field. :geek:
I once got scolded by one of those free weekender newbie assassins for relying on my team to get my kills as if it was a bad thing. I'm not one to play many online shooter games, but do FPS games tend to send off the image that one must become the one lone Rambo, amongst a team of other lone Rambos in order to 'be playing the game properly' or something?
This game is quite complicated. When you need to focus to do well yourself, you can hardly consider the status of your team. This game involves a lot of juggling with two diverse weapons, three skills, bots, turrets, the moneyball, hazards, enemy players, and the threats they pose to yourself, your team, and your bots, turrets, and moneyball. I don't think small tips would help them become more team-oriented, most simply need experience. People learn games at different speeds, and since the classes play so differently they have to relearn the game six different times to be fully successful.
I think a great way to reinforce teamwork would be the addition of assist streaks. Supports should also get assists from hacked turrets, as well as healed teammates. Healing a gunner during a push can be a massive help, I think it should be rewarded. We have kill streaks pro suppression, bot streaks for goal oriented gameplay, assist streaks would reinforce the teamwork aspect of the game.
Both please It's just a suggestion, I would also recommend them being worth almost nothing $15/30/45/60. It would be more to tie in with support getting assists for helping people, just giving some extra incentive to everybody.
Current pub "teamwork", if you can call it that, consists of establishing mid control and then spamming until the end of the round. Roughly on par with pub TF2 teamwork so no real problem. Actual teamwork would be designating players to protect a lane, calling for help when it is collapsing, dedicating players to annihilator control, and having people actually keep the money ball active beyond the one or so person per team that is actually willing to risk a death to keep it down (or even do damage before OT). Such things will never occur in a pub environment outside extremely stacked teams, sadly. And those games would last 2 minutes or less.
I am pretty happy when my team is on the same page and can keep consistent pressure on the midfield. But yeah, the teamwork that turns an ordinary game into a fast paced bot smashing, pro burning, bacon eating match that i love to be in. There are two things standing in the way of this: =Mediocre voice chat =Players who don't want help when they need it The voice chat one is what need be addressed to make the other one a little more bearable.
I dunno, I see a good amount of teamwork, it just usually comes in the form of backup. When I go Ginger Stepchild a gunner usually wises up and latches on to my hip. When ice traps are used offensively with a gunner in tow the other team has a hard time not dying. And any time I see a support setting up a firebase I rush to his side to make sure he has the time to hack/overheal it. And people underestimate the value of cover fire in this game. Mortaring/Flaking your teammates can save their asses on a regular basis. I would just like to see more is all, what gets me upset is the supports not healing teammates/hacking turrets they didn't build and the teams not backing up their supports trying to get a foothold on the best firebase locations. The best spots are the hardest to set up in, against a competent team that support needs support.
Yes, and yes. One more Yes just to cement the deal. ..But no, really, too many play FPS's nowadays for me to even think about it. The amount of 'QUICKSCOPING ONLY, NO GRENADES, USING AUTOMATIC'S LIKE SHOTGUNS, HAX IF YOU ARE SMARTER THEM ME!' yelling tossed around is just insane, and yes, even clanner's rarely have teamwork, it's all rambo'ing. So I have to say when a $15 dollar game promotes teamwork from the get go, I am happy with it.
All the examples you provide aren't really teamwork as much as they are each player acting in their own best interest that happens to be beneficial to the others. This is about the equivalent of saying that Dustbowl is the most teamwork based map at stage 3/2 because you have no other choices but to spam with the rest of your team for 15 minutes. Spam is king in most online games, especially TF2 and MNC. Providing more spam will push back the other team if they are incapable of dealing with it. This means assault grenade launcher and the gunner mortar, probably the best two guns in the whole game. And bombs and flak and sniper bot spam and so on. Moving from obvious spam (like into a contained team's inner ring), you have to actually work together to generate good spam. This is where the teamwork starts. And it doesn't occur in practice in either TF2 or MNC.
I try to create good spam. If I see someone going somewhere I don't want them to go I shoot shurikens, flak, grenades whatever to force them on another path. Staying with other people and covering them is teamwork in the simplest form. I back up supports all the time. If they don't have a useful firebase up, and they obviously want to get a sweet spot, I attach myself to them and cover them while they work their way to the spot and set up shop. And just because most people are doing it for greedy purposes doesn't mean it isn't teamwork. It just means that there are more benefits for working together than there are for going rambo.
While playing tonight I realised there is no teamwork at all, it's either pros going rambo or **** people dying alot. There is no middle ground in this game, you either are a noob or go noob stomping, which is truly fucked up to the nth degree.
