I have not heard a single line of dialog from my fellow players which is pretty sad.

I wish that there was some sort of advertisement for the use of voice chat.

People aren't using the VoiP 'cause there isn't enough support and options around it. So instead they tend to hop on mumble, vent or whatever Third-party Software VoiP they prefer. Having a good amount of options (Source games comes to mind) is mandatory for an alive'n talkin' community.

I can honestly say that it has messed up MNC's voice chat to the point where it is unusable (at least for me)

it "fades in" audio now for whatever reason (when im not using voicecom) and when i do use voicecom, it lags the crap out of the game and I teleport!

I just wish there was some notification of when a teammate is talking.
Was playing last night and I think someone was using the voicecomm but I couldn't tell if it was ingame or someone on Vent

There hasn't been good voicecomm implementation since UT2004
    UT2004 had...
    - Ingame sound reduction while teammate was talking
    - Easy to find Mute options
    - Player icon and nickname showing on left side

Easy to communicate, easy to know who was being smart and who to mute, voices came through nice and clear

It does, it has easy mutes, name icons, and alltalk.

Is alltalk supported by MNC as a server option/console bind? I don't think it is but not enough people talk for me to be able to tell.

If it isn't it should be, trash talks are often highlights in games. Being able to TELL the assassin on the other team that facegrappling me as a tank NEVER works would be nice as well. Vote kick would limit micspam to a manageable level(I still hate votekick. It should be a server admins job to kick micspammers/greifers/hackers), but there aren't enough mic users for me to worry about that.

We just tested it with SILK internally and seems fine. Next update will have visible icons and color change to player names when they talk as well as an icon on your HUD when you talk. Future updates will address other issue with VO as well.

When you say internally, are you talking about LAN?

    YES. God yes.

I'm glad to see this being addressed.

    i understand that.
however, I am curious if they were trying on a LAN (zero lag) as opposed to a regular server (30 - 60 ping).

Why? I like alltalk. If the voice system gets fixed I would consider this a must.

do both, alltalk is a good OPTION, dont have it on every server but to have the option to do it couldn't hurt.

I am posting this message from the future, so I don't have much time! In my incomprehensibly advanced time we have a button for all-talk AND a button for team-talk. I know that introducing this idea into your primitive timeline may cause terrible repercussions, but it must be done for the good of the species!

I believe they test everything on live servers. That way they have accurate info. I could be wrong though. ;)

We have remote servers and all our tests are through Steam. There are several issues with the voice system that can be heard even in a LAN situation. There will be some updates to voice this patch and more in the next one.
