The third eye may be cloak vision, as already stated.

Vision during cloak doesn't really make sense. If anything, you could see right through your face plate when you cloak.

Speaking of metroid fusion. Didn't it ultimately suck when you died from the spikey thing that held your power ups right after the boss? Happened to me once and pissed me off horribly.
