palobby.com operates a Community Dedicated Server that is now funded by donations from Uber Entertainment. The current spec is an overclocked 5GHz water cooled i7-7700K 64GB dedicated server running a custom linux build. Hosting Please remember to promote any big games in Community Chat and allow as many people as possible to participate. When starting please update community chat that the game has started and the number of free spectator slots open. Spectators have little impact on this server. The server can handle 20-25 FFA depending on system and play style. 20 FFA is the recommended max with up to 32 FFA on custom designed systems. For team games shared is always preferred as every player in a shared team is combined into a single army. eg 6v6v6v6v6 with 30 players are 5 armies. With unshared teams each player is a separate army. ie more like an FFA with static alliances. Rules and Guidelines Remember that you are here to play the game and not be a jerk. No spam, flaming, politics, abuse or hate speech. Anyone hosting games which violate Community Chat, Discord or Uber forum rules will be banned from hosting: https://planetaryannihilation.com/community-rules-and-guidelines/ You may also be banned from hosting if you have a history of violating Community Chat, Discord or Uber forum rules. Replays Replays are saved automatically after game over when the last client disconnects or after 3 minutes. To make sure the server is available for more games all remaining clients will be disconnected 6 minutes after game over. Download the replay if you want to review. Replays are synced automatically to: https://palobby.com/replays/ Casting If you play an interesting game then please post the time for @wpmarshall to review.
The Community Dedicated Server has a new custom linux server build compiled using bleeding edge Clang / LLVM 6 / ThinLTO which includes the attack at range and area attack fixes. Server executable is 25% smaller than stable and will be benchmarked next week.
simple surfaceswipe or do you plan to add a areadenialversion as well (like creating a lavapool) i would say if you go for surficewipe then better not add a crater because if you remember it caused too many bugs with flowing units or them getting destroyed for no reason being near it ...

The last server update included a fix for the nav::FloodRunner:requestRun server crash and there have been no server crashes since that update. That crash was caused when all of the nav integrator budgets ran out resulting in empty path results that did not contain the goal location. I have not yet looked at the history::LinearCurve::encodeDelta crash triggered by Legion Expansion. That may have gone away with recent Legion Expansion updates. I'll look at that if the crash reappears. As a side note it looks like I've also found and fixed a possible cause for the texture binding client crash in the final stages of building planets in the client after alt-tabbing or changing focus out of PA.
On the client side finally making some progress on the toolchain upgrade: windows client is building with Visual Studio 2017 against latest Windows 10 SDK linux client is building with GCC 7.3 on Ubuntu 17.10 macOS client is building with latest Xcode / clang ) The new toolchain also includes updates to third party packages like: SDL steam SDK FBX 2019.0 beta (with VS2017 support) LZ4 miniz OpenSSL libcurl libzip libpng libsquish breakpad etc Server side is still a big work in progress upgrading to latest V8 which is needed for the windows server build. Upgrading v8 is a painful process of converting over gn / ninja builds with latest ICU / snapshot / debugger handling then working through all the API changes from 3.19.18 to 6.7.x (lots has changed). Hoping to have the full toolchain upgrade fully baked and tested for end of 2018.
The 110080-mikeyh-testing build is available via the steam beta branch with the following fixes: fixed client crash on case sensitive file systems (eg linux) when XOV Commander is selected fixed client crash when binding virtual textures to skipped CSG with no visible surface area (typically triggered by changing window focus via alt-tab while planets are loading) Change version.txt to 110069 to play on stable servers. https://wiki.palobby.com/wiki/Planetary_Annihilation_Testing
The Community Dedicated Server has been updated to Ubuntu 18.04 and Linux Kernel 4.15 with no known issues. If upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04 watch out for the CURL_OPENSSL_3 not found issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ source/curl/ bug/1754294 You might want to keep a copy of libcurl.so.4.4.0 from Ubuntu 17.10 for any LD_LIBRARY_PATH wrappers.
All Community Dedicated Server replays will be deleted on the 24th so make sure you download anything you want from: https://palobby.com/replays
All historical Community Dedicated Server replays have been removed from: https://palobby.com/replays/ Only new replays will be synced that are covered by the opt-in Privacy Policy at: https://palobby.com/privacy/ The Community Dedicated Server will now send a lobby chat message to each player:
I think it was funded well enough. The loss of the server seems related to the migration to Playfab and the requirements of the GDPR.
