Here are my specs: Windows 7 64-bit CPU: Intel i7-3770k GPU: GTX 970 4GB RAM 8GB 1600 DDR3 By all appearances, this game should never have FPS drops for me. In fact, I have in-game monitoring software enabled when I play, and my graphics card usage never goes about 50% at any time. Yet somehow I maintain an FPS of ~30 or so in big battles or on crowded planets. Could this have something to do with the fact that the game uses OPENGL instead of Direct X? I'm trying to determine the culprit here because I've already tried everything. Things I've tried: -Turning off Steam overlay -Turning off Vsync -Turning on multithread CPU processing -I already have the latest gpu drivers -Checking the in-game server FPS (it's always at 10) -Launching the game from the .exe instead of from Steam -Turning the server option in the settings to both off and on -Everything in this list: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/how-to-improve-performance-all-video-cards-driver-links.53165/ Sometimes my RAM usage will go above 90% while I'm playing, so could that be contributing? I'm not sure if this game is considered memory demanding, though that doesn't seem like it should be causing FPS drops. Anyhow, anything you could do to help me would be appreciated.
that's completely normal... i have a 980 & i5 3570k @ 4.2 ghz & 16GB ram and I drop to 10 FPS when spectating large games. It doesn't really matter for rts games
It really isn't normal, dude. I've seen this problem being posted around the net (mainly on the Steam forums since Humble keys were just given out), and the PCs with the issue should be 100% capable of running this game at high FPS 100% of the time. The battles in this game are intense, but absolutely nothing compared to other games that these machines run on full settings. Here's my DxDiag too, as I'm in the same boat. High-end PC, 60+ FPS all the time apart from any kind of battle whatsoever. As soon as my single titan starts crushing buildings, boom, 10-15 FPS. Sometimes if I pause the game it goes away (and stays away for 5-10 secs after unpausing), other times it still stutters while paused (audio and FPS stutter). While it's not a game-breaking issue it is immersion breaking, and the point of these forums is to raise problems with the game.
@fungustrooper please post some client logs as well: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/how-to-find-the-pa-logs-and-game-lobby-ids.69151/ Are you playing on local server or online? Is there any difference? settings > server > local server > on / off
I have no idea if these're the right logs or not, but here're the latest 3 from my PA folder. I played 90% of my first campaign on Auto, then when I read your message I turned Local Server to On. I found out the stuttering is linked to Commanders entering combat. In the final mission I decided to spam those Sub Commanders you can make at the Advanced Bot Factory, and yeah every time I was even remotely zoomed in and they engaged something, the stuttering took hold. If I zoomed out enough it would stop, and also stopped once they left combat.
no those aren't the correct ones and the commanders are much higher poly so they are expected to cause more lag
Well, those are the logs found in the directory listed in the Log File topic. Thanks for the very helpful reply, though. And I am telling you 100% it is not a simple issue like "that bit is too complex" or "those models are too high-poly". I can run the new Total War game on full with 40 armies fighting onscreen, including some very high-poly models. There is no reason, outside of how the game is coded, for the game to lag only specifically when commander units are fighting. If it lagged whenever they were onscreen, I'd be more inclined to agree, but since the game only lags when very particular units start fighting, even if they're the only unit on the entire map, it's a problem with the game. That's not a bad thing! Games have problems all the time, and it's still a very fun game (I just played a 10-way skirmish on the biggest map and it was a lot of fun - again, the game only lagged when commanders got into the fray) - but this forum was made specifically to report these kinds of problems. Please stop making excuses for the game, it's much more helpful to accept and try to work around/fix the problems than just sweep them under a rug.
