Not sure what to think. It looks really fun, but... five maps.

2 factions, very few different types of units... Hard to see this game retaining much of a multiplayer scene. To be honest, it looks like the devs were a bit lazy with this game. Too much focus on small mechanics and pretty graphical details, but not enough on what makes an RTS good/fun and replayable even in the multiplayer aspect.

what the hell is with total buiscuit and him voicing in videos LITERALLY my mind doodles!?!! He's not saying just 80% or 90% what I think in my head. He's saying what I think in my head 100%! wth! even the little tidbits like "homeworld shipbreakers" sounding and being better because more a-propos.

"Lazy" is a bit harsh, a game doesn't end up looking that good or playing well through laziness.

I mean I can't say I'm that surprised by DoK ending up like this. The Homeworld series as a whole always seemed to prioritize looking pretty, DoK just took that a little too far and ended up significantly compromising other aspects of the game.

I will say thought that i'm looking forward to it anyways because I think they'll continue patching it and they'll add the third race and make the ai good and all.

I'm just sad that the game according to TB has crap AI. I don't expect it to be better than a human player, but I atleast expect it to put up a half decent fight and without cheating (or with minimal cheating).

I'm just wondering whether the game is moddable like the old Homeworld was. If it is then that'll make me a lot happier.

So far not looking like a full priced purchase for me.

From what I've heard no modding yet, we'll see.

I also heard that someone else saw a vs ai vid and it was performing much better than TB's.

Performance wise I think TB was running the 32 bit version as that is the one that was released early. Apparently the update that adds 64 bit was just released. He mentioned this in his vid.

Can confirm: That AI is completely ****. I didn't need to play the game to even see that. It behaves exactly like the Land Air Sea Warfare AI I play against on my tablet: cheat to tech like nuts, send little hardened groups to kill the enemy, repeat. Terrible.

I'll be getting this at some point, just short on cash at the moment.

As for the negative stuff against it, I think RTS fans must be some of the hardest to please. All the new RTS titles have been met with the 'it's nice BUT...' reaction. I wonder if maybe expectations are a little high.

Edit: And if I see one more review that involves the words 'but starcarft 2 did...' I dunno what I'll do. Seriously **** Starcarft, Blizzard haven't released anything truly innovative in a decade.

Back after watching some footage of DoK, including that drama queen TotalBiscuit.

So far DoK has 2 factions which is twice that PA, 5 maps which is more than PA since planets looks all pretty much the same and play the same, has real 3D maps where altitude really counts and a graphical aspect that's way more realistic than PA, but... opinions... as long as you respect mine, I respect yours.

The only real issue with DoK is that's probably too pricey. I'm surely not gonna buy it for 50 bucks. But I'm in no rush either, I see no problem in buying it in some years from now, when it will reach a more mature stage (hopefully so).

So far it looks very promising. I feel that most of your critics are quite unfair. It's not even been released yet.

Turrets can be built using baserunner units, so it's got all of the turtling without the accompanying eco/fac/tech construction.

I'm not really sure what your point here is, it has more stuff than PA so it's good?
SupCom 2 had more factions, maps and realistic graphics than PA and it was terrible.

course they freaking are! don't we have the right to! look how blasted rotten spoiled FPSers are! they get their (pardon the language but it's true) metaphorical c**ks sucked by fuckin Graphic chips companies !! they're not even concerned! that's to give you an idea of how bad they get their c**ks sucked by game devs and publishers!

they get to ask for some of the most insane shitt that's completely unrelated to the core enjoyability of an FPS and they get any damn whim!

Oh and dare I get started on Moba players?

but you know what? it's not so odd that things be and function this way.

striving for better is a legitimate desire.

For some reason though in the RTS world (or rather for a very specific reason : there's less cash) this comes of as an illegitimate one.

    It's so weird!

Anyhow I think we gotta be brutally honest here : "I think RTS fans must be some of the hardest to please." is by far the most fundamentally untrue statement I have witnessed to date.

    No ...

    please...

    I can't even....

    really?

Let's look at cold hard facts here. It's not like any FPS or MOBA players aren't drowning in choices is it? despite that they only play one title and it's sequels for their whole gaming period of their life (usually 10-18 after that they get a life and almost rarely ever game again).

I've been following many different titles for a long time now so I think I can say the following in due knowledge :

PA has by far the most die-hard fanbase I've ever witnessed in a game to date. no joke.

Many people are not used to looking at any other factor than quantity in a fanbase so to them this statement may not make much sense.

Look at it as quality vs. quantity : PA's fanbase will tolerate and put up with things that in an FPS' fanbase would probably get immediate capitulation to their desires to. they'll just go on a rant, make alot of noise on reddit or whatnot and the devs and publishing companies promptly become their bitchh. (I'm sure you can recall plenty of examples posted on this very forum).

And I've noticed this in a lot of RTSes : RTS fans are : A.) incredibly fuckin faithful and B.) stick around for much longer than anyone, they will often groopie around with the same devs in the hopes of another good title despite circumstances preventing them from doing this and chances of it even happening being nill; the kind of thing that you'd never see elsewhere.

I mean shitt, sure we've got people on PA that are just barely breaking into their teens but we've also got plenty that are past their forties with almost the majority in their mid twenties. that ain't exactly the 10-18 lifespan described above is it?

EA put out a FIFA so bad all it's fans were unilaterally discussed? (it's never happened but try to imagine) would the next FIFA title make it against a newsprung concurrent? Hell no! you know it won't! (look at fukin SimCity vs Skylines!)

EA ran out of money? (again... please use .....ALOT... of imagination) okay it polls whether people would support it to kickstart it's next game, one that's drastically under the usual ambition level ... unilaterally the poll would come in negative.

wheras SupCom fans despite having felt stabbed in the back with supcom 2 STILL (and this I am fully confident noone except me here will fully grasp) pitched in for the Wildman kickstarter; kickstarter meant to save the company with a small title; and furthermore a title in which RTS players had no major interest; the numbers for how many pitched in to wildman basically corresponded exactly to the FAF community and no more.

wildman didn't make it though. (woulda been nice to illustrate my point even further but I think I kinda did already)

plus look at all the hype and mystery around TA2, only kind of hype to be worthy of comparing to Half-Life 3's.

    And kickstarter... Fuk!!

    dare I even mention it?

It's being on the back foot alright?

It's not exactly a position of "Hey watch me do this, I got this!"

Great! now how many new release FPS and MOBA in the mainstream have needed crowdfunding/early access?

    Ok

Now how many new release mainstream RTS? that's right all of them.

does that stop an RTS fan? Heck NO!

TA, IMO started what I refer to as this more faithful type of fan. probably it already existed with C&C.

what I think is amazing is that despite it's dismally low profit rate (which really does relate a public's overall dissatisfaction with a product let's be honest ANYONE can appreciate a good RTS) for over two decades compared to other commercialized genres, RTS is STILL today a viable commercial option despite it's (repeatedly verified) reputation for low buyer count.

That says LOADS for how massively faithful and supportive the RTS fans are compared to the other crowds. MORE than I ever could.

Instead of buying one or a couple titles from a genre like do all the FPSers and MOBAers and RPGers, RTSers buy them all, not only because they hope to get the message across to companies that this is still a viable option but because they can't get enough of the stuff and have critical thinking and like to try it all out.

You have put your money where your mouth is. In the big lines that's the main thing that is remembered or scrutinized.

No. RTS fans are by far the EASIEST to please in my personal opinion.

They are critical thinkers on top of that too, and that's really a good thing.

don't let RTSers being the easiest to please become a call for less quality. Our critical thinking is the final frontier versus the definitive fall of RTS.

I like SupCom 2. I still play it time to time.

On the other hand, I'm not playing PA since ages, 'cos it bored me.

So, it's all a matter of perspectives.

As for DoK, it's way too early to move critics against it, especially if justified by parameters like number of factions or maps. That was my point.

Hmmm if I bought the game in Britain according to the current currency exchange rate (and if the price is 30 pounds), its $7 cheaper in the uk than the usa o_O
