Been a while since the last time I played, got the new Titans content thanks to being a backer so I thought I'd give it another go. Started a SP galactic war campaign (normal difficulty, Uber scale) and began playing. Imagine my surprise when the first three battles I fought were all not only in single planet systems, but on the same goddamn planet! It's not a very big one either... After beating the same planet three times (with the AI always doing the exact same thing at the exact same spawn point) I started skimming over the galactic map and lo and behold every single system I could see had but a single planet to its name. I tried starting a new game (which sucked since I got some great techs on that first one) and had the exact same issue all over again- single planet systems as far as the eye can see... Tried to restart the game entirely and started a third galactic war but to no avail. For my fourth attempt I tried changing the difficulty to hard but got saddled with yet another galaxy populated solely by single planet systems. So... What gives? I'm running a legit 64-bit Windows 7 on a Core i7 PC with 8 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 GPU in case you were wondering, though this bug doesn't really sound like something that's hardware related...
Well, that's certainly not happening to me. Have you by any chance ever had mods installed? If so, try running PA with the --nomods parameter and see if it still happens. It might also be good to verify the game files. For the UberLauncher, you can just press the [VERIFY] button a few times. For Steam, you can follow these instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
Well that's certainly odd then. One thing you could still try is clearing the PA configuration completely. That will give you a clean slate to start with, but you'll lose every GW and will need to start afresh. (It also will reset settings and delete saves). To do so, go to the following directory: Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\ (just copy-paste this in the address bar of Explorer) OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/Uber Entertainment/ Linux: ~/.local/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation/ Inside you'll find a directory called "Planetary Annihilation". Just rename that to "Planetary Annihilation.bak" while PA is closed. Then start PA and try a GW again. If it works, great! If it doesn't, you can revert to your old config by deleting the newly created "Planetary Annihilation" and renaming "Planetary Annihilation.bak" back to "Planetary Annihilation".
I got the same planet three times in a row on the same galactic war map, when I started other galactic wars and tried looking for systems with different planet types I got different planets, but every single system in every single galactic war game I tried was always a single planet system. Given the number of times I've tried this under various combinations of difficulty settings and whatnot my sample size should be somewhere around 100 single planet systems with no other type of system to be found within two-four jumps from my starting point in each GW game. This doesn't seem to be a configuration issue, the game files have been verified twice, I've tried this on every difficulty level and my computer had no trouble running this game properly a year ago, so I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this bug...
Ah, I see now, I think. Looking at <PA Install Dir>/media/ui/main/game/galactic_war/shared/js/systems/titans-normal.js", it seems you will always get single planet systems if there is only one enemy commander, but as you go further in the war and you start getting multiple enemy commanders, you should also get multi-planet systems. You do get to fight multiple enemy commanders at some point, right?
The hell would I know? By the time I've trivially crushed the fifth single planet system in a row I get so bored I just quit the game. I don't know who thought changing the GW system spawning logic this way was a good idea, but he/they basically ruined the game mode to the point where it's really not worth bothering with, which to me makes the game not worth playing since I'm single player gamer. I guess I'll shelve the game for another year or so and hope this gets fixed by the time I try it again. A damn shame, this game used to be so fun...
