Ever since the patch on June 9 my mac (latest macbook) hasn't been able to "connect to server" and its really been upsetting. It will flash me the is message "connection to server failed." Ive tried all settings on the server tab in settings.
So it makes no difference if you go to settings -> server and turn the local server on or off? (assuming you are connected to the internet when you turn the local server off)
It sounds like something is blocking PA from communicating with anything then. Even localhost. Could you try again with the Mac OS firewall turned off? (That should be under "Security & Privacy" in the Mac's "System Preferences") If it works then, then you need to specifically add PA to the list of exceptions for the firewall.
i tried posting my computers processes form the console app and it said that i wasn't allowed to post non-whitelisted links? whats that all about?
It's an anti-spam feature that prevent new users posting links (though the wording is confusing). It goes away after you've made five posts. But you can just save it to a text file and use the "Upload a File" button to post it here. Could you also post a PA log? You can find those in "~/Library/Application Support/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation//log" (where ~ is your home directory)
it won't let me post the rtf file i made of the console prompts? also, its really weird because i don't see an uber entertainment folder under application support. but i know one exists because i see my computer talking about it.
Oh, save it a .txt instead. I'm guessing .rtf isn't one of the allowed file types to be uploaded. Also, since you've reached five posts, you can post links now. Yeah, that's weird that it's invisible. You can try going to "Go" in the finder menu. There should be an option of "Go to folder" or something like that. (from memory) If you paste "~/Library/Application Support/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation//log" in there, it should open it for you.

These messages are kind of weird: Code: 8/12/15 9:39:08.276 PM rpc.lockd[24075]: can't contact statd, 100024 RPC: Unknown host From what I can find, they indicate a problem with resolving localhost, which would also explain why you are unable to connect to the local server with PA. Could you post the content of the file "/etc/hosts"?
i searched that up in terminal, and console, doing both "/ect/host" and "ect/host" and found nothing in either.
That's because I wrote "/etc/hosts". You switched the 't' and 'c' in etc, and you lost the plural of hosts somehow. You can try copy-pasting the following in your terminal: Code: cat /etc/hosts
Matts-MB-legitament-pro:~ User$ cat /etc/hosts ##\n# Host Database\n#\n# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface\n# when the system is booting. Looks like you used an ad-blocker that modified the /etc/hosts file. The hosts file is what translates hostnames into ip-addresses locally. So for example "ppj.qwikbookprint.com" is translated into 127.0.0.1, which is always the computer itself. So in effect, that host name cannot be reached, i.e. it's blocked. Try backing up that file and replacing it with the default one, which I think is just this: Code: ## ## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost
Oh, no problem. Just copy-paste the following in the Terminal: Code: echo "## ## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost" > ~/hosts That will create the new clean hosts file in your home directory. (Don't forget to press <Enter> after you pasted this in your Terminal.) Then you need to back up the old one by typing: Code: cp /etc/hosts ~/hosts.bak And finally, overwrite the current hosts file with the new default one you just made: Code: sudo cp hosts /etc/hosts Hopefully, that will fix PA (and possible other networking problems you have may have been experiencing). If anything goes wrong, you can always undo everything by restoring the back-up like so: Code: sudo cp hosts.bak /etc/hosts
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I haven't been able to play the game on lan w/ friends for like 6 months. Thank you!!!
