Ok so the title itself kinda sums up the basic premise but I think I should expound on it a little bit. What do you think of the idea of having a 2 neutral nodes located in the center of a map? The idea is that either team could purchase a turret there. I suppose a good way to balance it would be that turrets placed at neutral nodes have a 50% cost increase due to the advantage given by controlling them. Either that or turrets placed there have reduced max health (but would do the same amount of damage) that way they have a higher turn around rate to allow either team to turn the tides via a quick destruction of the turret and new placement. I think it would be an interesting new mini objective to try and fight for control of. Also with the difficulty of defending one of the neutral turrets (due to it being at the middle of the map and thus in a relatively constant battle zone.) it would allow us to see supports trying to hack enemy turrets on a more regular basis. Thoughts?
Yeah this sounds like a good idea. I've always thought the support's hack had an interesting dynamic and it would be really interesting to see that sort of tactic being use more commonly throughout the game.
It should have some barrier preventing them from shooting each other (Long Shots being the exception). Like in LazeRazor, Turret nubs on either side of the Anhilliator's little island, on the second floor. They wouldn't shoot each other, but would dominate that part of the map for said team. The turrets would also not shoot anyone sneaky enough to go the Anhilliator, so putting two 3.3 rockits up there doesn't mean an instant win.
Yeah, and turrets controlling area around the annihilator would make come-from-behind victories that much harder. Get pinned in spawn right away, can't get to annihilator...frustrating. I know you said "someone sneaky," but what if the team has no assassins, and is otherwise being zone-controlled away from the annihilator? Makes loss all but inevitable. I do like the neutral node idea though, but they'd have to be in the right spot, away from the annihilator. Or perhaps you get neutral nodes instead of an annihilator. That's tough for me to say 'cause I pride myself in hitting the annihilator every time it comes off of cooldown, but new game mechanics/dynamics are always worth trying. More variety = more fun, bigger game community, everybody wins!
This is a great idea, but id rather see areas of construction instead of fixed spots for turrets. Also, to avoid turret wars, they could just not target other turrets.
It's a fun idea and wouldn't really take away from any Pro's job. In fact, it would give them another one, to destroy it. And what are you guys talking about with the turrets destroying each other?. In the center to me means one on each side of Grenade III or Ammo Mule, in the middle of the bot lanes. Can't shoot each other there.
Neutral nodes may be in range of each other. However, the firebase can be set anywhere, and can attack a turret that can't attack back when placed properly. Thus, turrets attacking each other would just be a new form of pushing for territory.
This might actually be a good idea, but it may be needed to think this over a bit. I can imagine a 3.3 Rockit blocking a lane might be a bit gamebreaking if implemented unproperly. Interesting idea though.
I dont see how it would be gamebreaking really, if the node is in the centre of the map its going to be SO exposed, any turret that goes there is gonna be target number 1 for everybody in the match So a team who are able to defend, build, hack and overheal a rokkit turret in centre map really deserves the huge advantage that will then give them. Thats just my 2 cents anyway. Very nice idea btw.
Thats one of the main reasons I suggested having turrets on neutral nodes have reduced health. A level 3 rockit turret would still be a beast but it could also be taken down quicker thanks to reduced health AND increased exposure to enemy fire keeping it from regening health, also making it harder for a support to heal it constantly. The trick would be to have the node in a location that garners enough traffic to be important, but also be exposed and open enough that its not easily defensible. The node is ment more as an offensive tool rather than defensive like your base's turrets.
A similar idea would be to have the turrets indestructable and have it like a king of the kill situation where you have to stand on a pad for a certain amount of time to make the turret operate for your team for 30 seconds or a minute or w/e. Additionally you could do the same thing but instead of turrets have healstations or juice stations that only work for your team etc, just thoughts but its a very versatile idea that could be used in a lot of awesome ways.
