    Those are the only options.

Do we really need another thread on this?

Someone brought up an irrelevant poll, so we need a new poll.

    Forums rule number 1:
You can never have enough polls, because polls are the most important source for absolute arguments.

You can always select to play in systems without asteroids. No reason to take them out.

If our only option for planetary impacts is mutual obliteration, then I'd rather have the planets involved be of a size where mutual obliteration makes sense. Not throwing a pebble at a planet that should reasonably leave only a crater.

So you'd rather all of the dev time spent on it be abandoned because you think that it's unrealistic for a high velocity impact from a large object into a larger object to obliterate both objects.

Its obvious its better to have asteroids, but they are still only ok as they are, nothing more.

Its much better with asteroids then without.

The belt adds a good atmosphere to pa space.
We finally have a proper explosion instead of two planets going poof and a silly commander explosion.
No more questions like (is this going to completely rek the planet or still create a crater)
    Less chance of getting stalemates.

Frankly it just makes the game feel more polished then what it was before and that makes it totally worth it for me.

Yep. Imho the whole asteroids stuff was overrated anyway and I am surprised Uber put it in. The Kickstarter promises really seem to mean a lot to them. Now that we have a working and nicely looking asteroid implementation they can imho just go on and do something that actually improves gameplay before the stage of super weapons.

What if we keep the current system, but add a building to intercept asteroids as they are about to hit the planet?
For example, a laser or nuke or something could be fired, shattering the asteroid. The remains would then fall down and form craters, causing widespread damage, destroying buildings and units, craters, etc. Only problem I can imagine with this is to re-enable targetting specific parts of planets.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about coding in general and have no idea whether this is actually possible or not.

Technically possible but to make that look good it would certainly require a considerable amount of work. Work that could be put into other things.

Like making pretty wreckages that are left by all units all game. Improving the whole game and not just some specific endgame scenario.

Probably because people love to quote old things that were shown as concept stuff and ideas and moan about it because its still not there.

Anyways I agree. They have something nice and a good basis to expand properly from if budget and time allows it or they can focus on something else. Good stuff

Would you rather complain with no skills yourself as a developer, or just deal with whatever the professionals make? those are the only options

I like the new planet smashing more than the old system in every way.
    • More predictable
    • More prettier
    • More reason to tech up
    • More reason to spread to many planets
    • More smash

I agree with all of those bullets, but you're leaving off
    • More invalidation of annihilaser.
    • More binary.
    • More imba.
With that being said, fixing those isn't on the table so we'll have to live with it.

How is the annihilaser less binary?
