    Hey guys!

So recently i snapped my headphones (don't ask me how =P) and i've found i can't really decide on which headphones to get so anyone have any suggestions/recommendations from experience or other? =P Like what do you guys use???
    • I'm really big on aesthetics... like if they don't look good or they don't look good when i'm wearing them i won't get them.
    • I prefer fabric/gel cupping over leather.
    • They have to be over ear... like they can't touch my ears at all
    • Gimic-y stuff makes me giggle
    • Mic attachment is preferable but not essential.... but i prefer head phones with multiple cords so i can pull out the microphone attachment and shove in another for my phone
    • Led's and other stupid things are cool too (not essential)
    • edit: can't be plastic-y, needs to have some weight on it.... i hate things with no weight on them >.< eek!
I'm currently thinking about the A50s/A40s, Siberia Elite Prism, the Afterglows or maybe Madcatz 7/9. Anyways, I'm open to anything as long as it's not over 400/500-ish.... Mother doesn't support my gaming addiction so this comes out of my allowence *sigh* #PoorUniStudentLyf
    Anyways, much appreciated guys!!! <3

    Regards,
    Violet
(P.s. What do you guys think about the difference between closed back and open back ones???? Does it make much of a difference??? ty!)

I'm on to my 3rd pair in maybe 4 years? they always snap, and i don't know why, maybe my head is too big.

    Dollars? euros? :O

I use a Razer, works well. Oh and i too use the big round ear cups, so much better when it doesn't touch your ear.

I got these Sony headphones and they've lasted a couple years, much longer than any headphones I've had before. Can't tell the make of them though.

Back in about 2008 I started playing Team Fortress 2, really enjoyed it, and bought a Sennheiser headset so I could shout things like "PLEASE, MEDIC, HEAL ME!", "SENTRY TOP RIGHT", "SPY SNIPER" etc. Anyway, they're still going strong, and I can thoroughly recommend Sennheiser as a manufacturer.

However, you're saying things like "I'm really big on aesthetics... like if they don't look good or they don't look good when i'm wearing them i won't get them." - get your priorities straight! Function over form, always. It's nice to have nice looking stuff, but its even nicer to get something really reliable that performs well that you won't have to replace for like a decade or whatever. Nicer look things are quite often not designed and constructed with that in mind.

Also, you haven't specified a budget, so... :p

And as for 'they can't touch my ears at all', I assume you're talking about 'closed' headphones, which form a cup around the ear. If you game for long periods of time this means your ears will get sweaty :p However they do serve to isolate noise. So if you've got a lot of background noise you want to block out, closed is the way to go. My headset is open, which I find quite useful cos it means I can hear my lady when she talks to me. It also means sometimes background noise annoys me though. So, something to bear in mind I guess.

Closed headphones tend to enhance the bass frequencies, open ones tend to be more 'neutral', and thus arguably a bit more accurate. I think. For me, closed/open is more important as pertaining to comfort and background noise. If you want to keep an ear out for stuff, open is a good thing. If you have noisy housemates and you want to shut out noise, closed should do that. That's passive noise isolation though, you can get active noise isolation headphones but I have no idea how good they are.

Anyway, that's my rapidly typed thoughts on the topic, let us know what you end up getting!

My headphones tend to bust at the cord, so I got a set with a removable cord. Now I just need to replace the cord every so often instead of the set itself. It's over ear, but not terribly gigantic.

Unfortunately the set has lasted long enough that the branding is worn off. Can't tell you what they are. They cost me a whole $25 so you'd think I'd keep better track.

so avoid razer, they are just more brand for the buck (wait...)

seperate mic and headset, can't stress the importance of that enough.
    mic:

    headset :

    two separate things ok?

and it's ok to have a headset with a mic, but never to use the headset's mic (which is the reason why asus makes them detachable, i think)

Anyways @dom314 , earlier up, recommended the G430, having tried it at a friends : WOW just wow, if you have the money : go for it. I can only applaud this recommendation.

Personally, since I am such a cheap-cheap I use two different headsets : sennheiser h201 (let's just get this out of the way, if you're not looking for brute bass alone, the sennheiser brand is sure fire in terms of sound quality. Audiophiles worldwide recommend it.)

(so this thing may look like it's built out of plastic. but it's actually made of pure adamantium, as far as I can tell it's indestructible. My h201, has been through a life of hell with me, so much so that it reached the end of what I assumed was it's life-cycle, bought another headset, but I end up still using it because it works just like the day I bought it)

...Which brings me to my second headset, the CS-ANC2S. which's sound rivals a boze (what I mean by that is that it's by eons better then my h201). which in turn makes me keep alternating between the two because it's no match for the h201's rigidity. well...

if you're talking about the frame and cups .... yeah basically adamantium....

but the CS-ANC2S comes with acoustic cancellation (yeah maybe that's where the crazy unheard of sound quality comes from, Acoustic cancellation is tatsu tried and approved, five star, doge wow, use at your own risk though, you can't hear cars coming when you're crossing the street, this is a danger you may not think of at first.)

and this AC means that there's a little box at the joint of right and left ear cable that holds the battery for the AC. (yes... battery. can't possibly be an issue though : if I use my CS-ANC2S nonstop listening to music, it'll hold a whole week. if I take breaks to eat, shower and listen in class, then it'll hold for two.)

and this little bugger catches onto everything and is made out of flimsikĀ©.

It has no screws which means it's fun and easy to repair, but also means the little teeth that hold the box together have a tendency to break into their holes. I only have one left holding, the rest holds with electrician's tape.

but other than that yeah it survived tatsu-hell so it is worthy indeed.

It also is foldable, contrary to the h201. You know, foldable sounds stupid untill you've put a headset in your duffel-bag and it survives. I think foldable is basically a multiplier stat to durability.

last amazing quality about this is the cable that never tangles. maybe it's the rubber coating. I dunno how it works, I just think it's black magic. It's also exactly the right lenght for outdoors. If I have the headset around my neck and let the cord hang it just barely doesn't touch the ground. Meaning I can be late (as always) running to catch the bus while i search for my phone in my bag to hook it up for music and won't trip on the cord and die.

    and these two

    as you can see

    are quite cheap.

I got my CS-ANC2S on aliexpress.com so I saved even more (shipping is also free on that site)

and they are really quite at the top of what I recommend for cheap-cheap.

If you do not want cheap then I recommend (out of what I have tried, can't recommend something I haven't tried) : the hd-25 1 2, the G430, the ROCCAT Kulo Virtual 7.1 and the Audio Technica ATH-M50X.

@zihuatanejo - i specified under 400/500 AUD because i'm poor >.< And since you have open backs- can people really hear what you're listening to or is it more of an exaggeration??
And everyone else, thanks for your recommendations i'll search them up. ^^ Esp thanks to @tatsujb - also, i've never imagined someone who goes for cheap stuff and buys a separate mic =P tehe, i always thought mics were 1000 or something o_O But thanks for the recommendations <3 ^^

i also bought my pro mic cheap.

    (well, you be the judge)
    http://www.amazon.com/Excelvan-BM-700-Condenser-Microphone-Recording/dp/B00K72ENOU

    it's off the hook.

Everyone on teamspeak tells me my voice sounds crazy good and keyboard is softer.

I also threw in a filter, and extendable mic arm and a jack to usb adapter : http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00GNVDY4O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

    -"wait.. why?"

well because plugging it straight into your Creative game blaster or onboard audio jack will result in not enough impedance (I think) so no matter what you do pro mics sound way too low as is. (I found that one out the hard way)

so you need an external amp ... or usb converter, which is an natural amp because it gets a lot of wattage from USB port.

I don't know what to call how I live, "cheap" or "choisy".

I've yet to move to the smartphone era because I don't see the use.

But I most definitely see the use in an 8-core hyperthreaded processor or 16gigs of high speed ram.

    ehhh...

Anywho if you click on my "FAF" link in my sig you'll see my video I made with this mic. it'll show you the quality.

My bad, totally didn't notice the price range you specified. I think you can hear the audio if the person wearing the headphones is next to you but my lady doesn't seem to complain. Hard to say, some people listen to stuff crazy loud..

I personally always use wireless headphones when gaming and a separate microphone.

My last headphones (which lasted me 10 years ish) were a pair of senheiser fm wireless headphones. Fantastic range, really well built and come with a recharging cradle. They finally died earlier this year when the left speaker failed.

I'd highly recommend them. I've since moved to some Sony Bluetooth ones, but they're not nearly as good. Bluetooth has advantages of microphone and audio controls built in, but the range is really short, volume is less and their a pain to get connected every time. The fm ones just worked.

The Bluetooth headphones are good for the gym though (can't do that with fm wireless due to base station).

The senhiesers should be in your budget too @violetania, the only negative based on your requirements is the pair I had we're against ear pads rather than over ear, although the actual pads were removable so I'll bet you can get different covers as needed.

Edit: Example of current Senheiser headphones (these actually are over ear as well)...

I use the AKG K271 MkII. They're over-ear, have a replaceable cable, are a great fit, really comfortable (with the optional velour cover) and produce great sound. I've had them for years.

I use a set of Audio Technica headphones. Very very good products from that company. At uni atm so I'll edit in the name of the headphones when I get back home.

Not exactly the fanciest headphones in the works but the audio and build quality is really up there.

    EDIT:
Not my headphones but I've heard a lot of good things about the ath-m50 series.
Also when you get a pair of headphones get a pair that allows you to replace the cable. Nothing is worse than buying an expensive set of headphones and having the cable break (I treat all my tech well and its happened to me multiple times.).

    EDIT2:
Not home yet but I think my headphones are the ath-a500x. Defs not pretty looking but the quality is really good. They do sell stuff that looks a lot better than that now though. for example the ath-m50 series as mentioned earlier.

I remember once I was watching you play PA on Twitch and you were talking about these headphones! They are gimmicky, but if the quality of the drivers is good then I would say that they are quite fun! I would want to listen first before buying though!
