I have set starting planets and have met all requirements to save the system yet the save button does nothing, also all my systems that I have made in the past have suddenly disappeared. I have tried reinstalling and the problem continues to persist. I have posted this on the Steam bug-reporting forum for this game with no response so I am now posting this here.

I have been unable to find a workaround as of yet. If anyone knows what is causing this, please let me know. If there is a fix, please let me know. And if all hope is lost, then I would also like to know that too. :)

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I would first try to disable all mods if you use any (or run PA with the --nomods flag).

If that doesn't work, then it sounds like something has gone awry with the directory where PA stores all of the user data. You can find that one here:
    Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation
On a typical install %LOCALAPPDATA% will be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local
    OSX: ~/Library/Application Support/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation
    Linux: ~/.local/Uber Entertainment/Planetary Annihilation

Maybe you ran out of space on the partition where the user data is stored? If not, maybe it got corrupted somehow. You can try renaming the "Planetary Annihilation" directory to "Planetary Annihilation.bak". If you start PA then, it will create a new one. Does it work then? The unfortunate side effect of this is, of course, that you will lose all of your settings, planets, Galactic Wars, saves, mods, etc..

If the renaming didn't work, you can just delete the newly created "Planetary Annihilation" directory and rename the .bak one back.

I can now "press" the save button after renaming the folder you mentioned. The save button simply does it's "pressed down" animation and then stays greyed out. After closing the editor I do see that the system is saved but that's still not what's supposed to happen when I press "save" if I remember correctly from the last time my game worked properly. I tested a map I created in ai skirmish and it worked. I hope this problem can be permanently prevented so that other players will not lose everything. I would say I'd expect this from an alpha or a beta but the game has been fully released so things like this probably need a little more attention considering this is now technically considered a full-fledged game.

Are you sure? I thought that's how it always works. You make a new system or make changes to an existing system and the "Save System" button will turn green. Save it and it will turn grey again. Make changes and it will turn green again. That's how any editor works, doesn't it? All of my text editors do it like that anyway.

Actually, I guess it feels different because the system name is used as the "file name", so to say. So for new systems ("files") it won't ask you where to save, but just does it.

I thought there was supposed to be a pop-up confirming the save but I guess my memory serves me wrong lol just makes me scared that if I close the editor, my map won't be there ><
