    N=1, 0

    Edit: the Wikipedia article on this doesn't explain it very well I think, but basically it's stating that complex problems have an efficient solution? (Or don't if P =|= NP)

    Edit: 1337!

    Math might be a tool, but it's also one of the few things we know for sure exists.

    Perception of all sorts can be flawed. The physics of the 1800s we believe to be largely inaccurate, but it still accomplished great things. The physics we use 100 years from now could very well overwrite everything we think we know about the universe.

    Math, math is absolute. It is a representation of pure logic, and is always right. People might develop new algorithms and discover new methods, but all those relationships existed already, and will always exist.

    And it's pretty on a number of levels.

    Ha, that's pretty neat. You are just reading the XKCD comic I posted in the reverse order now. :)

    Noooooo! Don't you get it!? Engineering is the use of physics! It's one true purpose! Wernher Von Braun would have no need to invent rocket engines if it weren't for engineering. Physicists just piddle about with theories and experiments. Engineers identify how those theories and experiments influence the mechanics.

    Engineering, engineering all the way!

    EDIT:

    Need a solution to a problem? nanobots. Just nanobots. World hunger? nanobots. Disease? nanobots. Space exploration? nanobots. Just nanobots.

    Oh I know those! Those are the ones that rely on a solid understanding of electrons and quantum phenomena in order to function, right?

    Uhm, i don't?

    My post was a reference to the fact that every so often, "nanobots solve problem X" threads pop up.
