    Hey guys!

Never had problems in over 60hours and now i have a hard time completing a game. Most of the time i'm playing with a friend and he too gets the famous "Server Disconnection" issue. What could i do to fix this ? I've read a bunch of threads on steam community forums and on this forum and couldn't come up with a solution so i thought i'd bring that problem back up. I tried using "Host game locally" with the "Local Server" option ON and my friend can't see my game (tried DMZ on router didn't work too) even though i put it public/friends only. If i leave the "Local Server" option ON and do not click "Host game locally" he will be able to connect BUT we'll eventually get the damn server disconnection. I am out of solutions as i have tried a truckload of stuff and nothing works...

    My specs :

    Cpu : Intel 5930K@4.25ghz@1.2v
    Cpu Cooler : Corsair H100i
    Case : Rosewill Thor V2
    Memory : G.Skills 16GB DDR4-3000mhz CAS15
Motherboard : Asus Rampage V Extreme (BIOS 1302)
    SSD1 : Crucial MX100 128gb (windows)
    SSD2 : Agility 4 120gb (gaming)
    SSD3 : Crucial MX100 512gb (data)
    Gfx : Nvidia GTX690
    PSU : Antec HCP-1000W

Can't wait to hear from you guys!

    thank you

    Max!

Do you have some server logs that could indicate what the problem is?
Since seem to be using Windows, you can find those in: "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log". On a typical install %LOCALAPPDATA% will be "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local". You can delete them all, and then play a game to make the server crash and upload the newly created one(s). By the way, those logs sometimes also appear one directory higher, that is in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation".

    Hello deathbydenim,

How do you want me to copy the log ? it is something like 40918240912 lines long so i'm not sure how to fix this... Also, i cannot get the "host game locally" to work, friend can't see the game whatever i do :(.

    thank you

You're not able to upload it as you did with the PA log? If it complains about the size, then compress it to a .zip file. On Windows, I think you can right-click a file and select compress? I'm not sure as I don't have Windows myself. In any case, I'm hoping the server log has some sort of crash log. Try to search for the word "crash".

Oh i thought i had uploaded the right file! the server file you're talking about is a log file is it named something like "server-23-40-30.000.txt" ? Also what i find odd is that i just played a game with a friend and the game froze then i got the server connection issue and i didn't get any log files which is kinda weird...

Yeah, I meant the "server-*.txt" one. Kind of strange that you didn't get any when hosting the local server, yeah... Did you check both the log dir and the dir above that?

Hey! played another game and still didn't get the damn server log. Though my friend and i might have been able to pinpoint "WHEN" the actual crash happens. It seems to be a bunch of errors that are causing this but i'm not sure. The error string starts there :

@"[15:44:58.598] ERROR createAnimNodePlayback - Could not find [idle] in unit spec"

AND THEN it seems the sim stops

    @"[15:48:23.286] INFO client::ClientGame::connection_SimTerminated"

Can this be helpful ? i also have uploaded the .txt file for complete analysis.

    Thank you!

Oh, heh. I just now realized why you don't get the server log. You said in your first post: «If i leave the "Local Server" option ON and do not click "Host game locally" he will be able to connect». So that means the game runs on Uber's servers, not yours. So you won't get a server log. Sorry about that. I should read better...

You and your friend are on the same LAN, right? It's just that your friend doesn't see the server you started on the local network, right? Can you try installing the Connect to LAN Server IP mod? It will allow you to directly input the IP of the computer that is running the local server.

Another question. When you lose the connection to the non-local server (i.e. the way you are playing now), and you restart PA immediately after, do you get a reconnect dialogue?

    Hey !

    1. answer : We are not on the same lan but we plan (if this lan mod fixes the problem) on using Logmein's hamachi (or tunngle) with which you can "create a lan over internet".

    2. answer : We get no "reconnect dialogue". That has happened to me a couple time when the actual game crashed went back into it real quick and playfab would tell me to reconnect to the game. The way the server crashes right now doesn't give us that option, the game is just gone which is annoying. It is also really hard to predict, sometimes it would happen @20mins and last time it happened @55mins i think.

Anyways, we'll try the lan mod coupled with hamachi since we're not in the same network and report back. In case it fixed it, it would be nice for others to experience from our bad luck :(.

    thanks

Yeah, if you don't get the reconnect dialogue, that does mean that the server crashed on Uber's side. Fortunately, they do get all of the server crash logs, so they will look for the cause (and fix it). The annoying part is that it seems to be completely random for you. If you ever do find a way to make it crash consistently, that would be really helpful.

By the way, if you plan on using Hamachi, keep in mind that the person who is going to host the server needs a good upload speed (note: not download!) of at least 1 Mbit/s.

Jesus 1mb/sec, that's my peak upload rate... we'll try it and report.

It's a bit outdated info. There may have been optimizations in the past year, but I think that's what they were aiming at at the time. But just so you know. :)

Oh, nice. Well, I don't think you can fix it. It may simply be a bug in PA. The server crash you linked seems to indicate that the crash occurred in the AI Brain, so maybe @sorian knows something as he is the AI developer.

I don't know if it would be relevant, but how many AIs were you playing against, and at what level?

    Hey!

We were playing (friend and I) vs 3 absurds bots on a system i created myself(2x500 radius planets and a moon of 300+/- radius). And just for the info, with the system i have (which is somewhat enthusiast) after 40mins it started to slow down considerably. Who knew that such a game could need that much power!

    Thanks

Well, you could open a Support Ticket directly.

You could also try the PTE, which has had some improvements to the AI. Though the change log doesn't specify any bug fixes specifically.

The current live build is 11 days old, so you were already using that. This just means that they can't reproduce it, and a bug you can't reproduce is a bug you can't fix... Unless it's something with your computer after all, but that is rather strange as you also get the sim terminated stuff when using Uber's servers.

Do you also get these server crashes when playing AI Skirmish/Galactic War (with the local server on)?

Do you always get the same crash in your server log? I mean, does the link to crashes.uberent.com always point to the same file as the source of the error?
