I was reading around the forums and an idea came to me about how to make the sounds in PA a little more interesting for the player. What I am suggesting is a more immersive sound profile, where the white gradient is the relative 'closeness' of the sounds you can hear from on screen. What I mean is if there is a large group of Bolo's fighting on the left and there is a Holkins on your right firing away, the unit sounds could get a bump in volume and the sound could be skewed to certain audio channels. I'm not entirely sure if something like this is already implemented but I feel like things could sound a little bit more imposing even at more zoomed out positions. Making the camera feel like something real in between the game and the user could help PA out greatly. This is just one aspect of many changes that could enhance the effect.
there IS no 5.1 or 7.1 audio in PA. I asked for it but apparently it was not meant to be. https://forums.uberent.com/threads/5-1-audio.43918/ (even though Howard recorded the sound effects in 5.1 as I heard it)
fine with me, I only have a stereo headset. I figure it's best to just buy cheap, because my dog has chewed up a few pairs of good headphones.
I would absolutely love to get a 5.1 version of the soundrack. Otherwise, an RTS doesn't need 5.1, but it can reeeeeeeaaaaaaly add to the atmosphere, much more than you migh exepct from a game played in a high angle perspective. E.g. Total War, Battle for Middleearth and Rise of Legends benefited a lot by surround sound. Just Imagine what PA could do with rockets flying over your head or spaceships doing their thing above you.
or planets alerting you that they're just behind your head as they're about to come crashing down on the one you're focused on....
I guess I'm just looking to vertically integrate the game, from the units on screen to the meta game in your head. Are we just a floating no clip camera observing the action or are we an actual 'unit' in the game? If we can make the user interface experience more immersive in this way I think that feeling can easily be captured.
I love 5.1, I have a nice surround sound setup and would love to use it. I also have a stereo headset for when the wife is trying to sleep or something but during the day I usually crank it up!
It would also help the player to have more diverse sounds with directional input, because right now the only way to determine the unit composition of an army is to have your eyes on the unit icons, except generally as in bots vs tanks.
Don't you like the frog croaking coming out from the pelter? I'm always disturbed by that because I view it as a ephemerial troll change which went through release.
you know usually I'd down someone for the use of that meme, but in this context it's so goddam true! xD guys go listen to a commander or nuke exploding in supreme commander with bass and sound turned up, you'll come out of it like this:
Seriously PA has some of the most flat sounding effects I have ever heard. It's like the sound designer has yet to discover the left side of his equalizer. This would greatly improve the game for me. That and directional audio. Quick, someone buy that man (whoever he is) a proper 5.1 surround sound and show him where the volume button is.
seriously i can't take you serious anymore your constand need of rediculing members of the team is nothing but tiring and offensive .. if all you can do is being disrespectfull then there is no need for them to listen to you and make us as a forum look bad again ... guess why people like neutrino don't visit the forum anymore ...
It was said as a jest. Seriously though having bass mixed in is sound designer 101. Even I have mixed a few songs and know that. Its baffling that PA sounds lack any bass whatsoever. It honestly makes me question if the sound designer knows what they are doing. I am not saying this to be snarky or rude, it's honestly how I feel. I am sorry I don't sugar coat everything and you find it offensive but the truth of the matter is many aspects of the game are underwhelming like this and the devs sure better be able to handle a little criticism. We can't all be bffs with the devolopers and wear matching braclets. There are some hard realities about this game that need to be adressed. This is one of many. For the most part I feel like I have brought some really great discussions to these boards. I always tried to bring some really thought out arguments. It sounds to me it's more like you just don't agree with me on issues.
Listen guys we don't need to make this an argument about who loves the game or it's developpers more no need to up the tone, we all do. Let's just talk about whether or not PA's sounds are underwhelming.... and they are.
weither i agree or disagree with you on stuff does not matter .. feel free to criticize stuff as much as you want ... without being a butt to others ...
