This is the promised post where I reflect the data and analysis of the polls I created a week ago (original polls here: I II III IV). The data shown in this post is the result of the aforementioned imperfect (due ot limited options and functionalities) forum polls and some some obervations made by myself. It is important to point out that these are the statistics of the dedicated community (actually, defined in precise terms as those forum members who check recent posts in General Discussion at least once a week) and therefore this is, by no means, an attempt to ascertain general trends in the entire playerbase. Nevertheless, it is also worth mentioning that the dedicated community is characterised by an interest in the potential of the game, perhaps more than a passionate interest for its present state; therefore, these statistics maybe representative of the entire playerbase once all the missing features, as discussed in the forums, are implemented in future patches. The total number of polled people is estimated to be N = 135. Separate polls were answered by subgroups of the total. A total N = 50 reported to play a competitive gaming genre in the following proportions (non-exclusive). Additional general observations: An estimated 35% of those who answered "Currently working" have a "computer/electronics-related job". An estimated 10% of those who answered "Currently working" have a "gaming-related job". An estimated 15% of those who play competitive games is planning to have an eSports-related job. An estimated 20% of polled people is planning to have a job in game development. PA-specific obsservations: The above chart is strongly non-exclusive, there is a considerable overlap between all the groups. Nearly 100% of polled people who regard PA as a competitive RTS think it has the potential to become an eSport. 6 polled people manifested an interest in pursuing a career in developing PA. 2 polled people manifested an interest in pursuing a career in the eSport scene of PA.
*Sighs* They're just different, okay? It's a big deal to me. I don't want to ruin this thread by derailing it too hard, but if you'd like to discuss it we can in private chat.
and while the data is interesting, there were thousands of kickstarter backers alone, the forum-goers are a vast minority of that, and the poll only has the vast minority of forum-goers.
there's plenty of things he lumped together just for the sake of simplicity, I know what he meant, you know what he meant, I do not see where the problem lies.
B-but 50% of gamers are female! No but really great job here fairly interesting. What do you mean "lumped into one category"? The sex/gender part or the other part?
Too be fair this is only on these particular forums, and therefore aren't exactly a full metric. 50% of gamers could realistically be girls, though it can differ widely by genre I'd imagine. Imagine us doing a similar test on a stereotypically feminine game. Anyway I meant that sex and gender are lumped together, whilst in the original poll it was actually just sex. (I voted female nonetheless, as I could tell the OP's true intentions for the question was gender.)
Yeah I kinda expected the ratio to be something like how it turned out to be. Sadly PA just isn't as appealing to females as it is to males. I'm not entirely sure if that will change with time but one can hope. Hah I'm imagining there are other game forums out there that are predominantly female and they are all like where are all the men, why don't they play our game. I would chalk the mistake with sex/gender down to ignorance. I think the results pretty good regardless. Still taking the results with a grain of salt thou. I would have liked to see how many people had played rts before and how many this was there first. I'm interested to know this because the rts community can only grow so big if they aren't getting fresh blood.
Ya ofc its not a full metric and I was sorta kidding. But you will be hard pressed to find a close to even game with female players that isn't an iPad app. I'm sure there are some ofc.
Regarding the sex/gender issue: I do know the difference and, actually, I have close relatives with non-usual gender identities, so I am fully aware of the depth of the matter. I was just trying to be as compact and fair as possible, a very tricky task when the forum polls only offer limited number of options for a poll with such a huge scope.
