http://i.imgur.com/DKfdyPj.jpg Why is my game so shiny? :/ This is even on the darkside of the planet... edit: just look at that t2 air factory... http://i.imgur.com/O2qWk9h.png Tried reinstalling drivers + the game. Still the exact same.
What OS are you using? If Linux, what version and which graphics card (and driver versions)? If Windows, can you upload a DxDiag.txt? (Press <WinKey>+R, type "dxdiag", and press "Save All Information...". Upload the resulting file here.)
Just windows. Man you are a life saver here. I can usually figure out problems like this by myself, but this one just baffles me. http://pastebin.com/R3LuBstg here you go, didn't want to spam the forume with it.
Looks like you turned off shadows. Totally expected behavior if you have HDR on and shadows turned off. It's units being lit by the sunlight on the back side of the planet since the planet isn't shadowing. I should fix that
Ah ya that's correct. But the sunlit side is still REALLY bright! With HDR OFF: http://i.imgur.com/6S3FYLo.jpg With HDR ON: http://i.imgur.com/Bl98iCL.jpg Is this really meant to be how bright those Mex's are? I was pretty sure when i was on nVidia it wasn't this bright. Seems more obvious in this one too.. With HDR on and Shadows on: http://i.imgur.com/olZMsLW.jpg
And that is the AMD brightness bug they're talking about. edit: It should be noted the over bright look with HDR off isn't an AMD bug, that's just because no one here runs the game with out HDR turned on so I don't think the lighting values have really been setup well. The bug for AMD is when HDR is turned on and you're looking at an extremely bright scene the auto exposure never dims down to correct.
Here's an example of what should happen. When you first see an area it'll likely look like the left side. After about 10 seconds it looks like the right. My understanding of the issue is AMD users never see the game like it is on the right.
From my experience with this bug and HDR on i would say its twice as bright as the left image, it does dim down but takes a bit longer and it really dulls out the color. Another thing to note is if i disable HDR then i get this unplayable super brightness so it must be bugged somewhere. After restarting the game with HDR off and loading the same map but in system editor, this is how its normally looks with HDR off. (no brightness mods) I play without HDR on and my own edited brightness fix but only because it super dulls the color after its balanced itself with HDR on, the big problem with this is i don't get the awesome bloom effect from lathes, explosions, planets, etc. too complicated for my head but maybe some valuable info here; https://forums.uberent.com/threads/wip-planet-lighting.63312/#post-1009914
Indeed, on my nvidia desktop the game looks gorgeous, on my amd laptop it is way too bright all the time as the posted screenshots show. In my case a bit brighter as bgolus's bright and but far from that bright as skypheonix20 The 'brightness' fix mod does the job and makes me able to play the game without being annoyed by it though
