I am new to PA and I made a first post the other day. I received so much support from the community. Now on to my question. I am playing the single player to learn the games fundamentals and get a handle the UI. I have been watching some basic tutorials on game play. This has helped a lot with my single player game. Expand, circle your enemy, harasses them, scout early and often. The problem I had in my last match was my enemy was on a different planet. I did not have orbital technology. I was stuck in a defensive loop I could not construct units to attack or could have I. My question How do I get to their planet? Is there a video that explains this type of battle? Thank you all for your help in this matter.

Yeah when you don't have orbital tech, the key is speed! Scout fast at start and when you know you are alone, go for orbital launcher immediately. Get a coupe of transports loaded with fabbers and head direct to enemy planet. Build a gate and anti air defences asap, the pour troops through from your home planet for the win.

Key points: establish where enemy is asap, then get a gate up to his planet before he gets to many units. If you haven't got a gate on his planet in less than 8 mins, you probably won't be able too.

ugh... you can't "learn" this game with galactic war!

galactic war is the most incomplete bit of this game.

play skirmishes. you really can't learn PA with the unit cutoffs you have in GW.

not unless you use the modded unit cutoffs and then still. it's wishes it was supcom's campaign where you really learned each unit one by one and it fit into a context each time but it isn't.

here you're just going to get confused and adopt terrible strategies.

Thanks for the heads up. I will start using the skirmish mode. Game speed that will take a bit too master, still thinking about every move and what keys to use. In skirmish mode does that give me the badges I will need for the different maps and scenarios?

    no unfortunately.

and given you don't have game saves, yet I'd wait a bit to care about that. GW is subject to change in the near future.

Hi there, glad to here your enjoying Pa. It's always great to hear. :)

Ai Skirmish is the better way to learn Pa imho, the way I like to play is on one large 700/900 ra moon vrs one uber ai and lots of metal. Once I can beet that I reduce the planet size and metal count which forces you to play more offensively and it's not so easy to to turtle your units and then rush in with a massive army.

When I feel I've got gotten on top of soriens new ai tweeks, I then either head online or go back to the big moon and add 3-4 Uber Ai's to mix it up a little.

Playing online will learn you the fastest but can also be a bit overwhelming at the start.

Good luck commander, go forth and DESTROY. ;)

So true, I started on gw then I started on skirmish and its requires almost a completely different strategy to play because you can use any unit and have no restrictions.

I have started the skirmish mode and the AI is coming from all directions. I like this from what I saw watching videos. My biggest problem is I have no clue on how to use all these units. So many choices. What would be a good starting strategy? Land units, such as tanks or cheap bots. Or do I go for air?

The easiest build for a beginner imo is land factory + air factory start.

Set your air factory to make a mix of bombers and fighters, with the factory selected the click the patrol button and drag a circle over your base. Finally set the air factory to continuous build mode (bottom option on right hand menu). Now you have automated air protection :)

With the land factory, make a mainly the bolo tank with a few spinner anti air units to protect against bombers. Also make a few fabbers (about 3 is good at the start). Set the rally point of the factory in a metal field near your base, and send 2 of the fabbers to go build metal extractors whilst your 3rd fabber builds power generators.

The tanks will protect your expanding fabbers. Use your commander to build new factories as your economy gets bigger. At that point you should have a solid start and you can start experimenting with stuff in relative safety.

last question for the day is there a chat channel for PA. I have played Tribes competively for years and they have a channel, so I was wondering if there is a channel?

There's a mod you can get that adds access to one I beleive. Also in terms of orbital units, if you play on a single planet, the AI will tend not to go orbital at all.
