Ok, I'm pretty positive my PC (windows 8.1) doesn't have bluetooth- is it something that can just be installed?

It requires hardware, but you can probably get a small USB device for it.

You can pick up a tiny USB device for very little cost from ebay, the usb plug can be biggest part of it.

If it's a laptop, it probably already has the hardware. If it's a desktop though, you'll need the usb adaptor.

Check the device manager. Hit the windows key, type "device manager" and hit enter. Look for bluetooth. If you find it, stare at it for a while whilst stroking your beard. If you do not have a beard, borrow one.

I have borrowed a beard, but bluetooth is strangely not on the list.

What are you connecting to the bluetooth? A phone, headset?

Are you sure your laptop is supposed to have bluetooth hardware? Not all Laptops have it, a laptop is just more likely to have it compared to a desktop.

Then your laptop doesn't have it. You need to purchase a 'usb Bluetooth dongle'. Plug it in, then you should be able to pair stuff to your laptop by going into devices and printers.

Make sure when buying your dongle it supports the latest version of Bluetooth or the headset might not work correctly (latest is Bluetooth 4).
