My laptop has an Intel i7 4710 (2.50 ghz), 16 gb Ram, and a Nvidia 970M GPU with current drivers. Page file is about 2900 mb.

I've tried to run PA on medium and low settings in skirmish with only one planetary system and it is a slide show (really, the units pop from place to place).

I think my computer should be able to run PA very easily.

    Any suggestions please?

Well that effect can be caused by network lag (PA games are hosted on remote server when playing multi player).

As a quick experiment, go into settings and change local server from Auto to On just to make sure game is running on your machine (you can also turn wifi off). Try a skirmish vs AI and see if it's any better...?

If not there could be some other software that is interfering with the game, @SXX maintains a list of these so might be worth a look...

    List of software is there:

Though your problem likely not related to some software, but on networking. First thing I would recommend you to try it's to force usage of "Local Server" and see if issue still persist in skirmish with AI or not.

I should add that I just tested it again and the in game fps counter says I'm getting about 75 fps.

Also, I am playing single player against the AI, so that would mean it's not a net work thing, right?

    Thanks.

Depends on if the game is defaulting to using Uber's servers or not.

Go into settings, go to server and change "Auto" to "On", and then test again just to be sure.

As a matter of fact, it is an Asus laptop.

What software are you referring to?
