EMP Cannon (+ EMP SECTION OVERALL)

    EMP Cannon
    So I had an idea of making cannon which one would only switch off units with one shoot rather than destroying them and I've done some stuff. Benefits of this solution would be small cost of shoot, higher rate of fire than actual defense systems (umbrella and anchor) and % of capturing units with engineers [?].

    This would be pretty awesome but I think T2 balance and orbital balance should come first.

    An EMP weapon would be great for disabling orbital units above, or even all orbital units on a planet. I remember there was a thread about solar flares to take out orbital units on a planet, this could function the same way on a smaller scale.

    PS. Did you model that?

    I love emp as a mechanic. I'm not sure a fixed canon is the way to go though... I personally like the emp air drones from BA in Spring. They're cheap and fast but vulnerable to fighters.

    Way back in Beta, at the point when nukes were implemented, I had suggestions about having a missile launcher structure that could build various missiles. Nuke, anti-nuke, EMP and a smaller bomb were ideas for the buildable missiles. Although Uber instead split missiles to three separate structures, namely the Nuke Launcher, Anti-Nuke Launcher and the Catapult. They ignored EMP.

    Personally, I think there are almost too many structures in the game (keyword: almost). So I rather have less structures, but more units with different roles each (EMP bombers?).

    I too would love EMP to be a mechanic in the game.

    I'm able to try making an EMP bomber plane, so I'll maybe try... (It reminded me somehow Homeworld title :D)

    Hell, TA had a neutron missile launcher.

    Couldn't stun a com tho.

    So, stun any unit but the com, that's pretty good.

    Like actual bombers I think, or a bit smaller. I think it should be based on how expensive is this unit and how vulnerable is it. If it would be air-tank so small radius, if "paper plane" like - big radius.

    (We should talk about duration and whole process of switching off units as well.)

    emp is one of those things i absolutly have no interest in this game same with cloaks

    I agree- EMP cannons, bombs, fields, etc. would just be an element of the game that would become too difficult to balance. It would be a fun idea for modders to try out, but it should stay out of the main game.

    Well, in all honesty, this would not be a t1 unit. It would be a t2 plane, and therefore could have very decent splash and fire rate (which you can expect will also be based on energy)

    It looks really cool and I think it would be very good for new in-game strats but I also would like to acknowledge that the dev do have a bit on their plate.

    Would look great as a downloadable mod unit!

    I feel like if you gave the hornet this bomb, and made it fly normLy again, it could work. Disable all units in area of mabe a t2 factory for 5 seconds. Could work if t1 bomber was needed a bit.

    EMP will make bombbots useful. Zap the enemy army, and move in with a bombbot force that is 5 times cheaper than their army. Cos that's what bombots are useful against... things that don't shoot back...
